Perfect paints! another great Armypainter Product
I used the paints from this box set, and the other D&D box set to paint a good few miniatures recently, and I use mostly Army painter paints currently for most of my models, but this recent set, for whatever reason just seems so much better than even my older paints. Which might just be because those older paints are well, older. But these paints come out so perfectly smooth out of the bottle and require almost no thinning at all for most pigments, and only a drop or two of water is needed to thin them out nicely for thin layering techniques. Pigments you would normally expect to be weak, like yellows and reds are far stronger in this set than any of my other paints (older army painter, Vallejo, Reaper and even GW) and I cannot recommend this set enough. The miniature included is also well molded, and quite a nice touch. The brush included in this set is also a great starter brush and ive been slowly replacing all my brushes with Army Painter ones due to their amazing quality to cost. Basically if your looking to start out with painting miniatures, buy this set and buy the other D&D starter paint set by Army Painter and you are good to go, you will have most colors and tones you would need for most models and could easily mix colors for those that you dont have. The only minor complaint I could say about this set is that the paint bottles are alittle on the small side of things, but as long as you know that going into this, your fine (for refrence they are about the same amount of paint as a GW standard paint pot. And for the cost your getting alot more value for this set) So all in all, I cant recommend this set enough and I really hope that The Army Painter starts selling these paints separately aswell so I can buy them when mine run out because there are a few amazing colors in this set I really love. The Owlbear I painted following The Army Painter's online guide btw, so anyone can use these paints to great success just following their easy steps!

A wonderous value for a serious painter
You can go to your local Walmart to pick up paints and they'll do just fine. Your minis will still turn out just as well if you have a good touch, but hear me out here; if you're willing to splurge, Army Painter is the way to go. After I bought the Adventurer's Paint Set from my local game store, I decided to pick this up off Amazon. The colors you get are wonderful, giving you vibrant options to really make your minis pop. This also came with my favorite colors out of all of the paints I've used so far, including Rust Monster and Purple Worm. The paints are of a quality I've been unable to find at stores near me, thinning out extremely well and requiring less layers in general. The miniature that comes with this set is also wonderful, but you'll need to bring your own basic paints; as marketed, this is meant to be a sort of expansion set for those that already have the Adventurer's Paint Set. You should come here with at least some basic painting experience, and have your own base paints. While the offerings for the Adventurer's Paint Set will do, I recommend buying a bottle of Folkart white or grey to prime the beast of an owlbear mini that comes with this set!

Excellent paint, Excellent Mini
I’ve painted miniatures for Dungeons and Dragons for several years now and finally decided to try out some Army Painter paints. I started with the Adventurer set and liked it so much that I went ahead and got the monster set! The paints cover so much better than the craft paints I’ve used before. They have uniform cover that results in less, more smooth looking coats. It has saved me time and resulted in supremely better finished products. The paints included here when added to the other two sets are plenty to paint with and rarely need to mix colors. The dried paints maintain their brightness resulting in eye popping colors. As for the mini, with enough patience abs by following the YouTube tutorial from Army Paintsr I really believe that anyone could end up with a reasonable looking owlbear in the end. The detail is stunning as with any other Nolzur mini I’ve painted in the past. Just let your imagination take you away and give your player characters something to fear while traveling through the grasslands!!!

Great Owlbear Sculpt! Plus paints! And Customer interaction!
I only recently got back into miniature painting after many years away from it. I purchased this set reluctantly, but Army Painter and Vallajo seem to be the two most highly recommended paint lines (depending on who you talk to). Why I went with this set over Vallajo to be honest was the OwlBear miniature. I like Owlbears, and this sculpt is utterly mind blowing! The down sides to the set is that you will NEED to purchase "The Army Painter Dungeons and Dragons Official Paint Line Adventurer's Paint Set" to have a complete starter set of paints (why not sell all 46 bottles together in one set?). The Monster set does not have Black, White, True Yellow, True Blue, or a True Red. Nor does it have a primer (All of which are in the adventures paint set), but the Monster set does have 33 colors, and 3 good washes. Army painter is known for their washes. The bottles are 12ml, which is 5ml less then what Army Painter and Vallajo normally sell in their standard bottle (17ml), which I think might be the biggest disappointment for me. One final complaint, is that the names of the colors are not the standard names for those colors. Army Painter does sell the replacement colors, under different pigment names, fortunately the seller I bought from (316 DISTRIBUTION) sent me a conversion chart for when I may need to restock a color (Three maybe Four Stars for this part). The Amazon seller I ordered this from was very interactive with me, sending me an email with additional information about the set and offered to answer any questions upon purchase. When I got the set they wanted to know if I had in fact received it, and that all was in order. Not something a lot of sellers do. I felt like a valued customer. (Five Stars Here!) So my overall rating is Four Stars. Great Customer Service from the seller (316 DISTRIBUTION)! The Item is great quality (especially the Owlbear), but the fact it requires an additional purchase, the smaller 12ml bottles, and the names of the paints not being standard (creating an inconvenience down the road) did not win this item a full five stars. I would say it was a good purchase, and I am not disappointed. I would recommend WITH "The Army Painter Dungeons and Dragons Official Paint Line Adventurer's Paint Set", if you are just starting out, or just returning to the hobby... Or you just want that amazing Owlbear (totally worth it!)...

A very set of full paints and good quality.
I've enjoyed this set since I got it about a month ago. it's definitely a solid prismatic set. Each bottle is slightly smaller than a typical army painter bottle, but its still a respectable bottle. Paint quality is good and requires minimal thinning making this a good starter set of paints. It definitely has almost everything you need in a general set. You'll want to pick up some different metallics but overall a good set to start with, especially if you're new to the hobby. Warning: This set is meant to be paired with the starter kit. You will not find the prime colors here. Keep this in mind because you'll need to buy both. Depending on the price, if its going to cost you $100+, you may want to pay the extra 20 bucks and just get the FULL army painter starter set. However, if you want the official D&D paint set, then this is great. I believe about 7-8 colors are unique to this set. The rest are normal army painter colors under a D&D name.

First minis I've ever painted, these paints kick ass!
Despite the numerous dots of paint on cardboard (those are from my brother who already paints), this weekend was the first time I've painted any miniatures. I mostly followed the pattern in the guide for the owlbear, with a little bit of color-choice freedom and I think it came out awesomely! The off center eyes not withstanding, but that's my fault. The mini itself is well made and highly detailed. For the cloud giant, the paints diluted really nicely so I could paint thin layers and retain some translucence. A more skilled/practiced person could easily put these paints to use to in creating something way more refined. Highly recommend and if I run low on all the paints eventually, I would buy the whole set again. I also recommend the Adventurer's Kit as well to expand the color pallet just a smidge and to get a brush because this does not come with a brush.

Step up your mini painting game.
Great expanded paint set. Plenty of color choices to get started. Paint is on par (or better than...more in a minute) than Cidatel paint line. With just a touch of water, these paints thin up for super nice coverage. Pigmentation is strong. a few drops goes a LOOOOOOONG way. Speaking of drops, the dropper bottles are very handy. This is why (on top of the actual paint quality) I would rate these BETTER than cidatel paints. Also...OWL BEAR!

Imprescindible!!!
