Fod, Drink and Celebrations of the Hudson Valley Dutch
This is a great little book that has much to offer. Sadly it does not go into any great detail. It just makes you want for more information!I am of Dutch heritage and had hoped to learn more about my ancestor's life in the Hudson Valley. It only scratched the surface. Also, I had hoped for more recipes - there are very few given. Also, the discussion and the photos of the art works make for some thinking about what the piece of art is really about. Case in point - a St. Nicholas painting with "granny" in the traditional closed in Dutch bed. What exactly is she holding??? Is the girl holding a large loaf of bread or a cookie? The writer is an authority on the Dutch in the New World. I only wish she could have gone into more detail with out it being a college thesis.

Very interesting and informative. I grew up with some of the customs and foods mentioned and found myself nodding agreement as I read. Just a delightful read.
