MG Chemicals Electrosolve Contact Cleaner – A Must-Have for Cleaning Old Mining Rigs
I picked up the MG Chemicals 409B Electrosolve Zero Residue Contact Cleaner (15.45 fl oz) to clean some old, dusty mining rigs, and it worked wonders. After months of running 24/7, my miners had collected a ton of dust and grime, and this cleaner made them look and perform almost like new. What I really like is that it dries quickly without leaving any residue, so I don’t have to worry about moisture or film causing shorts. It’s safe on plastics and electronics, which is perfect for circuit boards, fans, and power supply connectors. The spray nozzle makes it easy to get into tight spots, blowing away dust and cleaning contacts thoroughly. ✅ Pros: Zero residue formula — safe for electronics Cleans dust, dirt, and oxidation from boards and connectors Quick-drying, no waiting around Large 15.45 fl oz can lasts a long time Works great on mining rigs and other electronics ❌ Cons: Strong odor while spraying (use in a ventilated area) 💡 Tips: Always power down and unplug your miners before cleaning. Use short bursts instead of long sprays to avoid over-saturation. Do this cleaning outside or in a well-ventilated area. Pair with a can of compressed air for best results — blow out dust first, then use the cleaner on contacts. Bottom Line: The MG Chemicals 409B Electrosolve is a powerful and reliable cleaner for electronics. It brought my old miners back to life by safely removing dust and oxidation, and I’ll definitely keep a can on hand for future maintenance.

Works. Took several squirts.
I don't know how it works but it does. I opened the hood of my old receiver and accessed the innards side of the volume knob. After Several squirts and a lot of rapid turning of the knob, the crackling sound disappeared.

Has saved the day for me at least twice, probably more..
Sometimes when you use a product like this, it can be hard to know for sure if it cured your issue. I had a guitar amp with multiple scratchy pots (potentiometers) I took brain' out and was ready to take some pots out, yet accidentally observed or noticed that there was a hole in the side of each one lol.... So then I put the little straw on the end of the spray head, and used short spurts in each of the holes, turned each knob rapidly back and forth, FIXED!! 100% , I also used this on a Fluke Meter (pro model) , the display and a couple of push tabs had stopped responding, after a little spray where applicable, FIXED !! lol Quite happy, it works, wear surg gloves for sure, and avoid inhaling while using, use outside or get away quickly after spraying.. I'm sure the ingredients are 'potent' , yes lets leave it at that. Have a great day, I'll buy this again, as/if needed. ---------- By the way, I've had this for a pretty long time now and unlike WD40 where the propellent is spent, long before you get down to the 1/4 can level, this propellant and seal system seems to be excellent.

really good stuff
This is really good stuff for anyone who likes to work on things that are electronic. Potentiometers create Gunk and debris inside of them and this cleans it out. I use this on a marshall guitar amp, my washing machine, and a few other electronics that I decided to clean just because. Works really well.

Contact Cleaner Review
I have used MG Chemicals contact cleaner for many applications over the years and it works very well. It is available in residue and non-residue formulas. The "residue" is a lubricant that is left behind after the cleaner is sprayed and that is necessary in some applications. The one I purchased is the non-residue formula. I use it mainly for controls and switches when they get dirty. I have the residue formula just in case but I rarely used it. I used to get mine from an electronics store that went out of business after 60 years.(Baynesville Electronics)I am so glad I found it here. Thanks again, Amazon!

Delivery Straw Problem
The chemical seems to work great, but the delivery straw IS too large (at least on my product). It will not fit inside the nozzle. I have to use straws from by WD-40 or Super Lube cans whenever I want to use the MG product. That is a disappointing experience from a company with such a good reputation.

Great for cleaning potentiometers on tube guitar amps! Even helps with tin whisker growth (really!)
Have a 50W tube amp (Friedman Runt) and lost bass response on 'dirty' channel. Reached out to Friedman and they suggested liberally cleaning the pots out with this (and only this) product. Was very leery at first but pulled my chassis from the cabinet and blasted the pots at mid pressure via the openings for the lead-outs. It worked like a charm. These Alpha-brand pots are pure tin coated and have an issue with strange symptoms popping up, Dave Friedman knew the fix, shared it, and we are rocking out once more on the over-drive channel!

RED APPLICATOR TUBE TOO SMALL
RED APPLICATOR TUBE TOO SMALL The diameter of the red applicator tube supplied with the product is TOO SMALL, BOTH INSIDE and OUTSIDE DIAMETERS. The supplied tube will NOT fit in the black nozzle opening on top of the pressurized can. Since the product is flammable, toxic, a skin, eye and lung irritant is important that one be able to apply the product ONLY inside the potentiometer or contact that requires cleaning. Now I will need to try and find one somewhere before I can use it. This is VERY frustrating. Some have said their tubes were the correct size. Other say it is the wrong size. The one supplied with my order was THE WRONG SIZE and this is unsatisfactory. Hopefully the supplier will read this review and correct the problem for future purchasers.

I've had some tough electrical components to clean and was sick of having to gut them to clean them out via ultrasonic and alcohol. I grabbed this to try and although it's not as good as a teardown clean it gets the components working again with minimal hassle. Just make sure you use in a well ventilated area, it's clearly packing some liquid death in that can =)

Just the thing for cleaning corroded switch contacts and noisy potentiometers. A little goes a long way.

I'm delighted with this contact cleaner! I purchased it to help clean up my very "scratchy" 1985-vintage NAD amplifier. The amp would occasionally drop a channel and had very noisy volume and balance knobs. After blasting the cleaner and vigorously "working" all switches and pots, the amp sounds as good as new. I had the same great results for three small transistor radios! I was also able to get my oven's meat thermo-sensor function working by spraying into the temperature probe's receptacle and repeatedly inserting the plug. $20 bucks invested in this product has saved me hundreds!

The joycon drift is a common problem among switch owners. Apparently it's caused by dust. I tried cleaning the joycons with rubbing alcohol and qtips but that didn't fix them. This contact cleaner did in no time at all. Great product. Just be careful when you spray it not to be too close or you'll get it in your eyes and skin which can cause serious damage.

So I ordered this product solely to try and get rid of my Joy Con drift for my Nintendo Switch, since I don't really have much confidence in myself opening up those things and replacing the analogue sticks. It arrived earlier today after a few-day wait and I gave it a go on the pair I currently have in use. Waited for a bit to make sure it was dry, and it worked like a charm! The drift is gone. For how long, I can't be certain, but I am happy to have something that can offer a fix for a problem that has been plaguing me for quite a while.
