Another delightful cozy mystery by Emily Brightwell
It is Christmas time and while Inspector Gerald Witherspoon's household staff is usually excited to help him solve a murder case this year they are distracted by other things. When Mrs. Jeffries realizes they aren't much help to Witherspoon (who is unaware of their help behind the scenes) in this latest case she does what she can to pull them together. But is it too late to help the Inspector solve the murder of Orlando Edison?“Mrs. Jeffries and the Merry Gentlemen“is the 32nd book in Emily Brightwell's Inspector Witherspoon and Mrs. Jeffries cozy mystery series and as always I'm impressed and (a bit awed) at how Brightwell has managed to keep this series fresh after so many books. She always manages to find a fresh twist for each book and in this one it is the distracted household staff members - this is not only believable but a bit humorous and a welcome diversion from the somewhat gruesome murder (Brightwell does not go into graphic details - this is a cozy mystery after all). As always, Brightwell shows not only Witherspoon and Constable Barnes questioning the suspects but the staff doing their own investigating and she gives readers just enough clues to solve the mystery along with the characters. One thing I really like is how seamlessly she has introduced Phyllis into the series - she is a relatively new character yet it feels like she has been involved from the very beginning of the series. The Victorian setting is a nice one and I always enjoy curling up with these books and being transported to another world filled with characters that now feel like old friends.“Mrs. Jeffries and the Merry Gentlemen“is another delightful cozy mystery by Emily Brightwell.

Murder, carolers, money
Love this series and it was nice to start reading them again. In Merry Gentlemen we have the crew trying to help the Inspector find out who killed Orlando Edison. He had three investors go in on a mine that is now bankrupt but could that be the cause of his death? With a lot of rumors going around anything is possible so Mrs Jeffries need to weed out and find the truth. It was nice to read about Betsy and the baby in this one and the rest of the gang seeing what is going on. The author does a great job to details in the story to draw the readers attention. You will be kept guessing until the endow who the real murder is. The characters are all wonderful to read about.

Mrs. Jeffries rises to the top again.
One simply can't go wrong in the British Victorian/Edwardian mystery genre then Emily Brightwell. Absolutely terrifically fun series. I have read all of them and don't remember a bad one in the mix. Typically I'm chomping at the bit waiting for the next book. Excellent series (I just don't give 5's very often.) Will not provide spoilers but it is so more gratifying if you start with her first one and just enjoy the journey through to her latest.

Quite entertaining
Quite a fun read. You have an Inspector with a high success rate of solving crimes. This is not due to his special talents, but, rather the collected talents of his employees, friend, and his assistant. They are all dedicated to his success. This time they are particularly motivated because it is almost Christmas and it would be most unfortunate to have the inquiry carry over into the festivities. They are marvelous.

Mrs. Jeffries Solves the Case ~ Again
I love Mrs. Jeffries and the staff of Inspector Witherspoon's house. I have written several reviews for Mrs. Jeffries mysteries and I always give them 5 stars. Emily Brightwell discovered a wonderful formula and although she adheres to it, the characters grow, change, and are always finding new ideas and depths in their Victorian existence. If you know Mrs. Jeffries, buy this book. If you don't, I would suggest you start a little earlier in the series ~ even at the beginning with The Inspector and Mrs. Jeffries. Although each book stands alone, the regular characters have lives and it is nice to follow them as well as the plots.

WONDERFUL series
I really enjoy reading "cozy mystery" series, and Mrs. Jeffries is my favorite. The series takes place in Victorian England. The household staff works for a Homicide Inspector and (without his knowledge) help him solve homicides. This is a brand new book in the series. (I believe it is the 32nd book in the series.) Sometimes when a series goes on, the series goes downhill in quality, but this book is just as enjoyable as all the rest. The book is very well written and an easy read. The quality of the writing and story has not diminished.I highly recommend the Mrs. Jeffries series.

Mrs. Jeffries does it again!
I just love Mrs. Jeffries and the cast of characters in Emily Brightwell's series of Victorian mysteries. These are the books I go to when I feel the need for a warming cup of tea and a visit with old friends. Each story follows the same format, so, in that sense, is predictable, but it is just plain fun to reunite with the characters and catch up on their lives as they go about the business of solving the latest murder.

cozy mystery
If you like the series: Downton Abbey you will like the Mrs. Jeffries books. I bought ,'' Mrs Jeffries and the Merry Gentlemen', and cannot put it down. I have a house full of visitors in my home and I am so engrossed in reading my book on my new Kindle I tune out all the noise around me until I hear I guess we should order a pizza, and I come out of it long enough to tip the pizza boy and then back to my book. Fun! Fun! Fun !

Enjoyable Seasonal Murder Mystery
Just love this easy reading series of mysteries. An apparently popular man is murdered on his doorstep. He is associated with a group of financial 'experts' known as The Merry Gentlemen and the household of the Inspector want to get the murder solved before Christmas.

Enjoyable
I have really enjoyed the whole of this series. Yes it is a little far fetched but it is well told and the characters are engaging and you do want to know more about them. It is very light and easy to read and I liked this book a lot it is a nice addition to the series. Trouble is I read it so quickly I am now waiting for the next one.
