The Fossil Girl

Even better she woke up one morning and told her mother ...
My daughter has to read this book to my granddaughter every night. She skipped the bio one night she told her mother you didn't read it all and when my daughter said yes she had my four year old princess said "no you didn't, you didn't read where she was born".Even better she woke up one morning and told her mother to refer to her as "fossil girl" from now on. :)

Quick read, not a keeper
Takes just a few minutes to read. Girls liked that it was a true story. They did not have any interest in a second read. Not sure the image of the black dressed minister thrusting a cross at the protagonist was necessary or true.

Cute and easy to read.
Bought this book for my daughter who is six. She can read it on her own and loves the story and art.

Great teaching tools for study on fossils!
My third grade class loved this read aloud and we did a follow up activity I found on teachers pay teachers that included "uncovering dinosaur bones" and trying to put them together to create a dinosaur. Wonderful book to learn about a real life "fossil girl" and the illustrations were lovely!

age appropriate
my grandaughter is 5 and I felt it was too old for her. Also the illustratings were very dark and didn't appeal to me.

Faulty
Nice story but Some of the pages In the book were missing half of a page of illustrations - faulty printing

Beautifully illustrated ... but a few reservations
Beautifully illustrated but I would have liked more on her later discoveries too. Also a bit uncomfortable with the negative depiction of Christianity; the only Christian figure is a ranting fanatic waving a cross and there is a suggestion that the Bible is incompatible with the old earth theory although many Christian's can easily reconcile the Bible and an earth of millions of years. It's a strange bias for a book about Miss Anning who was a devout Dissenter all her life.

Not keen on the style...
This book is ok but I won't be using it to support the teaching about Mary Anning. Instead it can be used as a book for the children to look at during the topic. I thought it would be better, just not my kind of book.

Great book cheaply printed
Great book but it feels very cheaply printed. Not sturdy at all by normal picture book paperback standards.

Very short
More of a very short comic than a book.
