Bury the Lead does not Disappoint
The Andy Carpenter series has been a found treasure for me. I first began reading Open and Shut because I saw the golden retriever on the cover. Being a golden lover, I checked it out and have loved the series. Each book has its own mystery and verve, and they all present an appealing array of characters with Andy Carpenter at the center. This book is indicative of the series overall by offering an entertaining, smartly written mystery with ongoing character development of likeable characters. It has suspense and for the most part a believable plot. And, of course, it features golden retrievers as well as other furry friends. I recommend this book and the series.

Great Fun
I'm still reading this one, but it's the third one in a series of 24 (I think). The books are great and really funny. I'm a retired lawyer and he (the author) is pretty good on the legal stuff. I was in the Army during the Vietnam War era. I have to say he's not quite so good with the Army stuff. Not so bad that I wouldn't read on, though. These comments include remarks about issues in earlier books, not just this one. If you want a good, entertaining read and you don't want to run out of books, this is the way to go. He has a spin-off series under way too. He's a dog lover and a rescuer of dogs both in the books and in his personal life. So, if you're a dog person that's another bonus.

A series of murders that make no sense
Andy Carpenter is big on logic. But he can't find any logical explanation for the serial killings of several disparate women: a hooker, a grandmother and a prominent political whistleblower.Worse yet, he can't be sure if the man he's defending for the crimes is innocent or guilty. He hates the idea that he might be helping a guilty man evade the law.Andy's talented bevy of investigators and researchers are just as confused as he is. So Andy is not quite as brilliant as usual in court. The fun of the plot is more in the shocking revelations in store for Andy before, during and after the trial. Nothing is what it seems. There are all sorts of hidden agendas, among the bad guys and even the seemingly good guys. The mobsters are far from being the most evil characters in the book. The plot has twist upon twist. The dialog is crisp and amusing. I love all the characters, in particular Marcus, the menacing investigator who can make anyone tell what they know. And Andy Carpenter has some very funny unheroic moments in the story. All in all, Bury the Lead is good solid entertainment. I'm really enjoying this series.

Lightweight Entertainment
David Rosenfelt is an easy author to like. His prose is light, casual, and witty, neither pretentious nor self-important. Kind of like Rosenfelt's defense lawyer-hero, Andy Carpenter, who stars again in "Bury the Lead". Andy is back with the usual cast of supporting characters: girlfriend/PI Laurie Collins, "Law-dromat" owner and hypochondriac Kevin Randall, and of course Tara, the golden retriever. "Bury" is again set in the northern New Jersey suburbs that Rosenfelt knows so well ("The Giants and the Jets play football in Jersey, yet they deny its existence, referring to themselves as `New York'"). Daniel Cummings, a high profile reporter with some baggage, is chosen by a fiendish serial killer as a conduit to the police, but soon finds himself as the number one suspect. Carpenter and team are initially reluctant, but eventually are convinced of his innocence and take on Cummings' defense. What follows is a relatively lightweight plot that, just when starting to stretch and fray around the edges, moves along quickly enough satisfy all but the most critical cases of A.D.D. There are a couple of twists to hold mild interest, but not so much as to make this a novel you'll remember three months from now. But Rosenfelt's likeable cast and breezy pace more than compensate any weaknesses in the action, and a surprisingly light tone, despite the rather gruesome subject matter, is a refreshing twist in itself.I suspect that the first-time Rosenfeld reader may find "Bury the Lead" somewhat more enjoyable than will the Rosenfelt veteran, as the Andy-Laurie-Tara act begins to wear a bit thin on this the third installment. Nonetheless, "Bury the Lead" is a credible and entertaining effort, well worth the time. One word of caution: at 272 pages of large print, this is a short read - don't plan on using it for filler on too long a flight.

You will either like these or hate them
The first one is charming and a twist on the normal class of book. The fourth gets really similar in style, characterization and situation. The plots are all different but if it is page 43 then we have a sex scene coming up. Try one or two and see what you think. I guess the thing in a series is the same characters developing. These characters seem to get stuck in the mud.

Enjoyable, quick read with some nice plot twists
This was my first David Rosenfelt book, but it won't be my last. He an engaging, witty writer. The story is light and fun, if a story with people getting killed left and right can be that.I like that while the storyline is relatively clean and easy to follow, it had quite a few plot turns - just as you think you know how it is going to end, it changes direction again.I like that he achieves plot twists without too much irrelevant complexity or too many bit part characters. I've been frustrated by authors lately who make their stories seem more 'interesting' than they are by throwing in all sorts of complete irrelevancies just cause. My only complaint about this book is that the lead character's jokes can get a bit tiresome. Oftentimes they are funny - and that's nice - but sometimes you just wish he'd skip the banter cause it isn't so funny. But that's a small price to pay and overall, this is a very solid effort and I will read more of his stories.

Book 3 Andy Carpenter (and Tara)
Continue to enjoy this series. A great mix of humour, action, investigative & legal suspense. Never quite know what surprises will arise or what Andy has up his sleeve. Just purchased Book 4 "Sudden Death".
