I recently upgraded my old graphics card in the mac pro 5,1 to the rx 580 and needed an external power cable to connect it to. This cable is cheap, but works well and gets the job done. It was easy to install, and the blue and black look pretty cool.

Works great for my rx 570 in mac pro 2008/3,1

Absolutely wonderful cable. While designed for Apple Mac Pros it also fits the PCIe power connectors in the full height, full length cage on the Dell VRTX which is what I use it for. The 8-pin connector on the end can also fit 6-pin graphics cards if you use a razor knife and cut the plastic guard in between two of the pins.

Just about anybody seeking to upgrade their 2010-2012 Mac Pro to make it compatible with Mojave will need to upgrade their graphics card. For my upgrade I selected the Radeon RX580 graphics card from the top of the list recommended by Apple. This card requires more power than the older cards and requires a cable capable of delivering the extra power. The upgrade went smoothly and this cable fits well and works great.

These worked in my Mac Pro early 2008 3,1 to power an AMD rx 590. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the driver situation worked out with my patched Mojave install, so I get a black screen, but it worked just fine in the installer screens. ;) if you have an older Mac Pro and you want to install a video card that requires more power, this is a solution that will do well for you The cables are high quality as well as the clips and I see them lasting for a long time. Now I just need to get the driver situation sorted out…

Yup it works! Upgraded the GFx card and needed the extra juice so I bought this cable. Works great.

The dual mini-6 to single 8 connector configuration and cable length are ideal for connecting a Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1 motherboard to the 8-pin power port on some graphics cards, such as the Radeon RX 580. My purchased cable worked. The power being consumed by the card is nearly all flowing through this cable, with very few watts coming from the PCIe slot itself in the observations I've made so far. The card I got with it is the Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 580 8GB, for a Mac Pro 4,1, with firmware updated to 5,1 identity. I liked the pitched features of the conductors to help ensure that the current flow would not overtax the cable.

Fortunately, once you get it working, you don't have to change it -- but the first few attempts at install, the cable connectors clicked into place, but power wasn't there - because the metal-on-metal connections in the connector were not actually touching. Pushing the connectors in and out multiple times solved the problem, but one shouldn't have to do that.
