Unless you're trying to feed the neighborhood...
As a man who has been married for 20 years, I can tell you the pain of not being "allowed" to purchase a deep fryer. "Why do you want a deep fryer? It's unhealthy. It's going to make a mess. Are you going to clean it?" Sound familiar? I decided to buy this model in specific, because I determined through LOTS of reading that it's going to be EASY TO OWN. Meaning, I think I can mitigate the mess with some good quality Costco paper towels AND cleaning it should be easy, it's only 2 parts. And I was right! Cleaning it takes 2 LITERAL minutes, if you have a hand-held sprayer (on your sink) like I do, cleaning this thing is a snap. Just make sure you have Dawn dish soap. That stuff kills oil quick! To give you an idea of the capacity in real-world units, I used to work in a restaurant. A SERIOUS handful of frozen fries equaled 1 portion. Serious, meaning the fries are in your hand, but good luck with that grip. If you don't get them into the oil, they'll be on the floor. Got me? Anyway, this unit will EASILY cook 3 portions using the mentioned method. I've made a dozen Nathan's onion rings at once and I've also been able to fit 8 Gortons beer batter fish fillets at once. I've been using Vegetable Oil (ALDI has the best deal!) and I have been getting 3-4 uses out of the oil, BUT I also purchased a Funnel/Strainer to "clean the oil" before I put it back in the original bottle. B08L3S1KVJ is the model I purchased from Amazon and it works great and it's super easy to clean. So yeah, quit listening to your wife. You know what your stomach wants. It's only $39! You've wasted more than that on other junk. And your wife has thrown away way more than that on shoes/clothes/Costco, etc! It's not an impulse buy, it's not a mistake. It's a great purchase and from what I can tell from the reviews, it should last me for years. And to those of you always trying to sniff out a fake review... I'm sure by now some of you have your Spidey-senses tingling with this review. I swear, I'm a real person, I'm not being paid, I have nothing to do with the company that makes any of the stuff I've listed. I just like to give thorough reviews. Any questions, I'm happy to answer them! :) NOTE: Once I have a chance to do chicken wings I will update this review. It seems there are a bunch of people having problems. My initial thoughts are that their technique needs to be changed a bit, but I'll know for sure once I try it. UPDATE 4/21/21 - I have stopped using Vegetable Oil, as I only get 3-4 uses out of a bottle of oil. I'm now using Canola Oil and to my shock, not only is it cheaper to buy, but I'm up to 6 uses and the oil is still holding up! The Vegetable Oil was "fine", but it was turning brown too quickly. Still haven't made wings yet, but I'm making fried fish sandwiches with fries and onion rings every Friday night. Purchased some spring rolls at Costco that were supposed to be baked, put them in the fryer - BAM - 5 minutes and they're perfect! NOTE2: I was originally letting it heat up for about 15 minutes (like everyone here says to) and that's just too long. I have settled on exactly 8 MINUTES of preheat. I ordered an instant read thermometer, when it gets here I'll determine if I need to bump it up another minute or 2. For now, 8 seems to be the sweet spot. I think that's why some people are disintegrating their chicken wings. Just my thoughts. UPDATE 5/22/21 - Now that my thermometer finally got here, I can confirm I nailed the timing @ 8min to 350F! If you're following the directions and waiting for 15 minutes, I can't imagine how hot the oil must get. 400F maybe? I still haven't done chicken wings (long story), but I promise I will update this review as soon as I do. I suggest you try to throw your wings in @ the 8min mark and seeing if that does the trick. Of course with that said, your mileage may vary. It COULD take YOUR unit 15 minutes to heat up. As with all things, use your best judgment. :) PS: 3 MONTHS IN AND I'M STILL LOVING MY GRANPAPPY!

The 10qt is the PERFECT size!!!
Initially, I thought the fryer was too small however, once I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised with the dept of the fryer!! Its doesn’t take a lot of oil which is good for frying and you don’t use a lid to cover when in use. This is the best deep fryer I’ve owned and YES, it fry’s your food to a crisp on the outside yet tender inside! Highly recommend!!

Fries Good, But Where’s the Temp Control? 🍟🔥
The Presto 05411 GranPappy Electric Deep Fryer is like the trusty old friend that always shows up when you need crispy goodness in a hurry—but let’s be honest, I really wish it had adjustable temps. 😅 While this fryer definitely nails the "plug in and fry" simplicity, it’s kind of like driving a car with only one speed. 🚗 Why it’s still a solid fryer: Simple and effective: No bells and whistles here—just fill it with oil, plug it in, and you're ready to fry everything from fries to chicken wings. The oil heats up quickly, and it stays at a consistent temp to get that perfect golden brown. It’s fuss-free and straight to the point. 🍗🔥 Compact and easy to clean: For a small kitchen or someone who doesn’t want to deal with a monster-sized fryer, the GranPappy is perfect. Plus, with its nonstick surface and simple design, cleanup is a breeze. 🙌 Affordable: If you’re looking to get into the frying game without breaking the bank, this fryer’s price tag is hard to beat. It gets the job done without any unnecessary frills. 💸 The downside? There’s no adjustable temperature control. It’s set at a single temp, which works fine for most basic frying, but if you’re the kind of person who likes to fine-tune their fry game (hello, different temp needs for different foods!), you might feel a little limited. 🍤 Bottom line: The Presto GranPappy is great for quick, no-fuss frying, but if you like to be in control of your oil temps, you might be left wishing for that extra feature. Still, for the price and simplicity, it’s a solid choice for the occasional deep fry craving. Just plug it in and let the frying begin! 🍟🔥

Simple, But Does the Job--Crispy, Fluffy Homemade Fries!
After using an air fryer for a while to make french fries (um limp buggers I might say), I decided to buy the GranPappy based on price and reviews. I love the air fryer for chicken tenders, tater tots, etc. but it does not make crispy homemade fries (even though they say they do). I did not want to spend alot of money on a stainless steel fryer, which I had previously for many years until it died. (The stainless steel fryers are a PAIN to clean, they get "glumped" up from the grease that inevitably gets on the stainless steel and is nearly impossible to clean completely. That oil "residue" leaves an unpleasant odor and stickiness and many of them have so many parts to clean.) I know the Presto Fry Daddy/GranPappy has been around ALOT of years, and after reading the reviews and seeing the GranDaddy at my local WalMart, I decided to get the GranPappy as the GranDaddy is very small (frying for 1-2 people) whereas I need to fry for 4 people. I was hesitant as it does not have a temperature dial and in making homemade fries, I do the twice-fry method (1st fry at lower temp, freeze, final fry at higher temp). So far, the GranPappy has worked perfectly. My family is loving the "carnival-like" fries and I love being able to pop the lid on after it has cooled down to store with the oil (which I reuse for a few times if just used for veggies). I absolutely HATED having to drain/strain the oil from the stainless steel fryers, messy job! The GranPappy allows me to store the oil in it and I just put it in my cupboard and there is no "greasy" smell in storage like I had with the stainless steel fryers (even AFTER they were cleaned!) Since there isn't a temperature dial, in doing the "twice-fry" method, I kinda "wing it". Any fryer oil will cool down when ingredients are added, so instead of letting the GranPappy heat up for the full 15 minutes, which I believe puts the temp at 375 F, I do my 1st fry around the 10 minute mark. I've been doing homemade fries for years, so I know by looking at the fries when they are ready in the 1st fry. (they get VERY SLIGHTLY golden and a few bubbles on the exterior- also they will start to float to the top). Then I freeze them spread out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment (so they don't all clump together), package when frozen and when we want fries, I let the GranPappy heat up for the full 15 minutes, add the fries and they are done in just a couple of minutes. Servings per fry (not french fry-but "fry-ing") depends on who I'm serving, If just my husband and me, then I get about 2 servings per fry - if my sons then maybe 1 serving per fry-HAHA)- My family LOVES them though! Crispy exterior, fluffy interior. I do agree with the other reviewers that the plastic scoop that comes with the GranPappy is useless, I use a wooden-handled spider. Cleaning has been simple, dump the oil, wipe out the inside with paper towel, cover or add new oil and you're good to go! If you're tired of cleaning stainless steel fryers or just want a "no-frills fryer that works" I recommend the GranPappy. It's simple but does a great job! Sometimes simplicity is the best.

Great fryer. The best fried chicken recipe ever
Quickly shipped with tracking provided in Canada. Well packaged. The best deep fryer for home/family use. My mom's had one for many years now and I now know why. Easy to use and store away as compared to the bigger heftier oil fryers out in the marketplace. This heats up quickly every time and fantastic for cooking. It has no temperature regulator so you cannot set temperatures. However. Very easy to clean and dump out used oil. The cord is attached at the base magnetically so you can detatch the cord also for easy storage. It comes with a plastic lid on top. Bottom line since it is such a simple unit it works wonderfully. As such I leave you with a fried chicken recipe below with respect to using this (and all types of) fryer... "The secret to good fried chicken is a real crisp skin. This is a great little fryer, but with chicken you need an extra yet worthwhile step to have the best fried chicken you ever smacked your lips around. This fryer does that but not if the bone-in chicken is raw, the temp of this fryer is too high for raw, bone-in chicken and what happens is undercooked chicken, even legs. But there is a way to get around that and it makes the chicken much better anyway. What you need to do is place the pieces of chicken you want to fry in a pot, cover with cold water, add salt to taste and, what I like is a healthy dose of Tabasco sauce. Enough to change the water color and to smell its aroma. You can use whatever herbs or spices you want to impart in the flesh if you like. Bring the cold water with chicken and flavors to a boil uncovered. Once it comes to a boil, remove the chicken, do not boil too long. Let it sit out to dry, it only takes a minute or two for the hot chicken to dry itself, Then, however you want to coat it, I dip the chicken in buttermilk and then flour. Let that sit at least fifteen minutes, as long as it does to let the oil come up to temperature, this gives enough time for the buttermilk and flour to adhere, making less mess in your oil and a better crust. Fry three pieces at a time if you like but no more, it doesn't take long to bring it to a beautiful golden color. Place it on a rack, never on paper towels to drain, that will keep your chicken crisp on both sides. Once cooled slightly, plate it and you'll have yourself some real good fried chicken."

Great Item
I really like this item. The only feature I wish it had was an indicator light to show that the oil was hot enough. Without it, you really have to pay attention. But I really like it and it does work well!
