A story of friendship or love, depending on how you look at it
This is a review for the Argentinian film, Mi Mejor Amigo (2018), as I am seeing reviews for the French film, Mon Meilleur Ami (2007), here as well. The headline of my review is taken from the poster for this film, “Una historia de amistad o de amor, según cómo la mires” (A story of friendship or love, depending on how you look at it).I realized the relationship between Lorenzo and Caíto was purposely not meant to be overtly gay and watched it a second time. I also don't think "depending on how you look at it" means it's a simple as looking at it from Lorenzo's point of view being love and Caíto's point of view being friendship. The first time watching it, I did lean towards Lorenzo's feelings being one sided, but there were moments where I questioned if Caíto's actions and words reciprocated those feelings. So while re-watching this film, which was the next day so my first viewing was fresh in my mind, I paid closer attention to the interactions, the looks and words spoken between Lorenzo and Caíto and, as other reviews have stated, much is left up to interpretation. I can see a friendship of love and trust building, but I can see the awakening in Lorenzo about his sexuality that Caíto has already gone through and something more than a friendship is blossoming. There are reviews about the ending being unresolved and how it disappoints, but without going into detail, what Caíto does is out of love for Lorenzo, whether that love is just friendship or if it’s something more. Other reviews have stated they wanted the story to continue and resolve what their relationship was, but this would have been difficult. If they made this film longer and dealt with the aftermath of an aspect of the storyline that we were already aware of, it would shift the storyline to the aftermath and would be less about Lorenzo and Caíto. You also have to keep in mind the film is between two adolescents that takes place over what appears to be a 5 or 6 week time period with an abrupt end to the further progression of a relationship that was in its infancy. I think this ending also keeps in line with the ambiguity of what the nature of their relationship was becoming.Throughout the film there are scenes that set up these moments where you think something is going to happen that clearly defines their relationship and they do not happen. However, do not let that deter you from watching this film. I don't feel I am missing out by not being told Lorenzo and Caíto's relationship is strictly one way or the other and I have a better appreciation and understanding of why their story is told in this way. I recommend watching it (or watching it again) knowing their relationship is meant to be interpreted in different ways.

A FRIEND FOR A LONLY MAN.
MY BEST FRIEND (Dir: Patrice Leconte, France 2006). In "My best friend", Monsieur Françoise Coste (Daniel Auteuil), is a solitaire Marchant, that with his partner Catherine (Jullie Gayet), attend an auction, hence calls its attention, a black vase with Greek figures about the friendship (the vase used to contained the tears of a friend). Coste wins in the auction the vase, by which pays a stratospheric price of 2.00000 Euros. That same night, is held an informal dinner with his dealers friends, where M. Coste stresses that he attended to a funeral of a colleague where only about seven people were in the church. Somebody reply that probably to M. Coste's funeral nobody will attend because he doesn't have any fiend. He is flouting that assertion, and when asked to mentioning the name of one friend, not colleague or client, he is paralyzed, Catherine bet the vase with M. Coste, invited to displayed, in the period of 10-day his "best friend. "The loneliness of contemporaries men is the landscape of this Leconte story. Bruno the taxi-driver who has collecting historic facts and trivial, dates, events, authors, with aspiring compete in one of this television shows knows, that his three "S": smile, sincerity and sympathy, although them work in their taxi-driver business, that do not help in every days life. The friendship, this form of get in touch with people mirroring the bond of blood or heritage, comradely, without necessarily have a sexual motive, it is almost disappearing. Men do not use to be so friendly any more with one or two people. Women do all the time. Men do not. They are massively "friends", but the one or two, paralyzing them before the possibility of what it can comment or, in the worst cases of what he can feel. One does not choose brothers but friend we do, so is one of the main issues of this very good film of Laconte. The evolution gave us a brain too large, for the basic functions of an organism, eating, sleeping, reproduced, the reason for this is the socialization, verbal and non-verbal languages, the neurons in mirror, to "read the mind" of another to make coherent my interaction. And yet, Laconte said, despite having a brain equivalent a very sophisticate and expensive car, we, men, use that fancy machine only to go to "seven & eleven", and return to our bedroom to sigh because our loneliness.

An Endearing and Real Film
It Truly was a very entertaining film and so true to real life, we live in a world of people wanting that fairytale ending, I could relate to this film as someone who has had unrequited attraction to another person and although melancholy in parts, it is a wonderful film

Keeper
I like Danny Boon movies. I have practically a collection. He's like the Adam Sandler, but a French of France type. Hilarious actor in all his movies. Very facial expresssive.

Leve pero agradable / Light but enjoyable
It’s a little lighter than perhaps you might expect from a film by this director but for what it is - an entertainment - it’s well done and enjoyable. The story is fairly predictable and the characters overdrawn, but the whole thing is saved by excellent acting and the director’s practised skill with gentle comedy.

Very likable characters in a believing story about friendship
Disclaimer: It seems that all reviewers before 2019 are referring to the similarly titled French film "Mon Meilleur Ami" (My Best Friend in English) from 2006. However, I am referring to the Argentinian film "Mi mejor amigo" (My Best Friend in English) from 2018.The film is about the evolving friendship of the young protagonists Lorenzo and Caíto who could not have been more different. Lorenzo sees something in Caíto that others don't. He, Lorenzo, is a very caring and lovable character, whereas Caíto, at first, is very confused with himself and the situation he got himself into. With his selfless kind Lorenzo finds a way to get Caíto into opening up about himself little by little. Fortunately, the emotional screenplay never seems to be out of place, nor does it appear awkward at any point. Further, while the bond between the two is growing stronger, a romantic affection also comes into play. However, the main focus remains on their friendship, and that not for the worse. A truly believable and free of any pathos kind of friendship. (Personal note: If I still was a teenager, I would perceive it more relatable this way than any making-out-wildly story.)Beyond that, the supporting characters have their strong moments, too. I especially want to point out the way the son and his mother interact in one particular scene near the end. It had a very strong impact on me, and I really felt like it could have been my own mom being there in front of the screen. You can literally feel the emotional bond between them. All in all very touching and believable.

Coming of age in Patagonia.
Pleasant and interesting. Well done 'sort of gay coming-of-age' movie but nothing very special. Attractive cast and settings make this Argentinian film worth a visit but overall, a fairly average film.
