The last few twists on the screws (attaching the stand to the mounting board) were pretty tight - some people might have an issue getting the base tightly installed. Not really a negative because you want it tight. Just make sure to use the right size screw driver. Too small a screwdriver will likely strip the head when you are tightening it up.The magnets on mine are pretty strong. None of my knives have slid / fallen off. that includes a pair of kitchen scissors which are held directly on. The vertical surface is 7" tall. I have a couple long carving knives that extend about an inch above the top, but I don't think it is a big deal.
