BerardFrench Olive Wood 12-Inch Handcrafted Wood Spoon, Terra Collection

I was looking for a spoon version of my largest bamboo paddle, which I love but cannot hold any liquid, obviously, and has begun to fray around the edges after a couple years. I have only used this spoon about twice over a couple months because it is so beautiful. It has a nice weight to it and the grain is even prettier than that pictured, but it is not quite as wide as I was looking for (the spoon head is 3 inches at its broadest, the same as my favorite wooden kitchen tool, but in retrospect, considering the one I'm replacing is flat-edged, I should have been looking for something even larger to replace it in spoon form). I would consider this more a medium, although sturdy and thick and presumably very long-lived, than an XL kitchen implement. It is gorgeous and well-made, and retains its color and moisture better than my other olive wood utensils but I'm still looking for something larger. I just don't have much use for this size and am deterred from reaching for it when I do because it's too lovely!

This is a nice quality spoon, however, I question the price. Plus it just came is acheap plastic bag that offered no protection at all. I wouldn't order again, but itwill do it's job.

We were looking for a nice wood spoon that would last and have a large bowl are so that serving food with it would take forever. This one is all that and more. It is smooth, large enough to get a good amount of food on to make using it worthwhile, has a nice feel to it, and cleans easily. As I mentioned in my review of the Berard slotted spoon, I have lupus; when I use other wood spoons, they can roll across my fingers as I stir or try to lift food out with them, this can leave a painful bruise on my finger. The handle on these spoons is comfortable to use and doesn't roll; so even though I have used it several times, I have had no problem with it. I recommend this to anyone looking for a nice wood spoon, that not only looks good, but is useful and will last.

This is a very good, I will say great spoon for making soup and sautéing vegetables, but it needs to be oiled and gently washed. I have had Olive wood spoons for years and they have gone through the dishwasher with no ill affects. This spoon dried out pretty badly and needed to be oiled right away. I used Rib Roast grease as that was at hand and what I was preparing at the time, worked well. Next time it needs oiling I will most likely use some olive oil, as it is olive wood.

I saw my good friend using these in her kitchen and she has all praises for these utensils. I also noticed her wash her Berard utensils in her kitchen sink. I trust this friend’s advice very much all times. I enthusiastically bought six utensils same time and when they arrived, they looked awesome. I immediately threw all my old utensils in the recycle bin. I read the care instructions and immediately washed them under the tap with hand-dishwashing Ivory soap. I dried them over the counter overnight. In the morning, I entered the kitchen excited to make my eggs using one of the utensils. What a shocking unpleasant surprise!! All of the brand new Berard utensils turned white!! I was unsure what I did wrong, I followed the single direction of hand wash only!! Since this company has a great reputation, I don’t know what to think or assume!! Is someone faking this product? Hope the company will respond and take responsibility. I feel helpless-don’t have a single utensil at home!!

Great product. Only knocked a star off because the spoon is a little big for how long it is. It should probably be less wide. But it is beautiful and well made.

This is a *very* pretty piece of equipment. Each spoon has a unique wood grain pattern, so there's a minor chance you could end up with an ugly one, but mine had a lovely whorl right in the middle of the bowl of the spoon.Aesthetics aside, the construction is solid, and the carving is even. It has a nice weight to it, and it has a slight curve in the handle.I'm going to continue to add to my wooden utensil collection with this brand's spoons and spatulas. I'm very happy with the quality.
