Scottish Herbs and Fairy Lore
S**.
A tome of Scottish traditions
This book is a wonderful resource for those interested in the folk medicine and folklore of Scotland. It is heavily footnoted and is an absolute delight to read. A review really can't do the book justice. In this book Ellen Evert Hopman made a great extent of Scottish lore available to the layperson. The book draws from many specialized texts that can be exceedingly costly and hard to find. It really is not the type of book that one reads straight through. I am an avid reader of folklore and I took it section by section. I especially enjoyed the section on healing stones. For someone that doesn't have funds to purchase individual books on Scottish herbs, another on Fairy lore, another on customs, etc, this will give enough depth information on the varying subjects to suffice. Rarely do I find a book that I would be willing to rate with five stars, but this is one of them.

A must-have!
I very much enjoyed this book, and it will definitely become something I will continue to pick up time and time again. The information is very well presented, engaging, perfectly footnoted, and joyously devoid of fluff without being too dry. The herbal contained in the book is thorough, and the recipes will delight any herbalist or magical practitioner. The magic presented here is old, and full of history. This is a must-have for anyone with an interest in the highlands, fairies, and herbs.

If you love "Outlander", you'll love this herbal!
This is one of my favorite herbals, which is saying quite a bit since I have a LOT of herbals. Ellen Evert Hopman is a delight to read and her research is spot on. There is so much more to being a herbalist than identifying the plants and knowing how to use them. There is a huge history behind every one of these green allies, about their uses and how people have regarded their energy throughout time. A 'must read' for "Outlander" fans. (Actually it was the herbal uses that led me to read "Outlander".)
