Read the intro and basic instructions!
This is a great book!I have some origami experience, and I found some of the projects very challenging. I appreciated that a lot! However, someone who is new to origami can still use this book. Make sure that you read the front of the book first, the introduction, basic instructions, and practice some of the basic and base folds before you get into it. My seven-year-old boy was doing some of these without help after I taught him how to understand the instructions and how to do some of the basic folds.I absolutely love the plethora of projects! I'm excited to make a nativity scene for Christmas, and to make a zoo with the children as a school project (we homeschool). There is cutting, and some of the projects call for glue. I have heard complaints around that if you cut or glue, it is not true origami, but who cares? It's about fine motor skills, creativity, and FUN! If you use a little problem solving, you can avoid the glue, like I did on my blue and purple T-Rex there. Don't judge your project until it's completely finished, and don't judge your first time through a project harshly either.Buy lots and lots of paper. I was gifted an origami paper mega pack with something like 900 sheets in it, which is what prompted buying this book, and that relieved some of my perfectionist pressure that "I can't screw this one up." Or you could square off junk mail to practice with and save the nice paper for gifts

We love it!
I run an after school program (ages k-3) and the kids recently discovered Origami when I showed them how to make a simple cup. I ordered some origami paper and another book with "easy" origami. Well, 500 pieces of paper and 5 days later...the kids were not challenged anymore and crying for more paper and more origami patterns!I ordered this book thinking "this might be a bit hard for them" but they are loving it! There are over 100 projects in this book, and the older children are helping the younger children. Our rooms are full of cranes, fish, lanterns, etc etc etc.The children love it, and as an educator it is a fabulous tool for hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and social skills! This book is great, clear instructions and great illustrations. A+

Not very user friendly
This book is amazingly comprehensive. It has all the Origami figures I've ever wanted to make (in animals). The problem is, that I end up having to look at a Youtube video because it is hard to follow and not that good at showing how the folds work. The author seems to assume that someone looking at the diagrams has already done this sort of thing, and I have, but it is not clear or explicit enough in showing a to b.

Very happy!
My daughter (who ordered this) said "This is the best purchase I've ever made", which is pretty high praise. She finally found a book of designs that challenges her, and has spent many happy hours creating. She's even been inspired to make her own designs.

Good for kids..
My fourth grade students love this book. It has basic, easy to follow instructions and more projects than they could ever do in one school year. My only rule is, no weapons. (There are some instructions for making guns, knives, and swords...which aren't allowed at school, of course.)

Impressive reference, but heavy on "creature" orgamis
This is a nice thick book and is well organized. There is also a range of easy to difficult folds. My 7 year old loves this book and has for the most part been able to follow along without major frustrations (I would say he is an intermediate origami folder). My only issue with the book is that it is heavy on creature origamis - animals, insects, a ton of dinosaurs, Medusa, snakes, that kind of thing. (Then there is a section on Christmas origami folds.) I was looking for instructions on how to make flowers, hearts, etc. for some greeting cards, and could barely find any. So, for those who are looking to fold more "feminine" things this is not the best reference. I apologize for the gender stereotyping, but this book is more appropriate for boys with traditional interests.

Best book for learning and advancing..
I absolutely love this book already and I've only had it in my hands for about 30 minutes. They break it down and explain every fold. And all the things you can make from step by step picture directions. It starts with easy then goes up.. THIS BOOK ROCKS. LOVE IT..LOVE IT..LOVE IT..

A good test of origami skills
Although I think this is a great book, It could do with a lot more explanation of "how" things are done. Diagrams are very good but most are more of a picture as opposed to proper explanations. A good command of origami is required to complete many of the exercises. I can see many long evenings ahead!!!

Many sample ideas
Be prepared for a heavy book that teaches several origami characters. It is clear up to a point. Then as the diagrams progress they are not easily understood.

umfassendes Buch
