Perfect fit in mason jars, works very well, sturdy.
This allows me to do little to no interfering with my sauerkraut after I chop the cabbage. I move it to the jar, sprinkle with salt, repeat until full, add the fermentation lock... and I am done. This pestle or masher or tamp or whatever you want to call it fits through the mouth of my jar easily and allows me to mash the stuff in the jar rather than mash and put into the jar. Either end can fit in your usual canning jar. Get fermentation locks and you are on your way to making delicious sauerkraut. I also recommend the glass weights sold by the same company.

Long length reduces knuckles hitting crock or tall jar lip
A little rough but I found this helps with gripping. I simply burnished a little with steel wool, then washed with salt water, let it air dry then oiled with food grade mineral oil. Works great making sauerkraut both brushing and pounding in a large bowl and for tamping in quart and 1/2 gallon jars. The two different size ends allows it to fit in standard or wide mouth pint, quart, 1/2 gallon jars. It is long enough to prevent hitting knuckles on glass jar or crock edges.

Open box review. Nice one piece of wood.
Open box reviewJust got it delivered today. First looking at the box is very nice design and sturdy. The box states “Made in Ukraine”. When I open it, it has a black wrapping paper which feels like a nice little gift. The whole tamper is crafted out of a whole piece of wood, no glue, no chemical coating. It has two different sizes of ends to fit different size of jar opening. There is tiny little thing that I think is not perfect. When touching the tamper, I can still feel a little bit of not completed by the finest sand paper to sand off the surface. However, I think that over the time with some washing and oil (if you put oil to season it) that issue can be fixed easily.

Perfect for sauerkraut
I needed a tamper for sauerkraut -- my old one, which was a handmade one my grandmother used, disappeared. I was tired of using whatever I could find that was on-hand and not metallic. This little gadget is perfect! I was afraid it would be too small, but it's just right (I make five gallons of kraut). It tamped the cabbage down well.I LOVE that it's one solid piece, and that the wood is sturdy. Definitely worth owning!

Solid product out of the box
Full disclosure, I have only just received the product. However, having worked with wood for many years, I found the tamper to be one fine piece of smoothly turned (lathed) wood. No blemishe, gouges or splits. The grain of the wood is very tight, no splinters. The Mokosha logo is very accurately monogrammed into the handle which leads me to believe that some modern technology was used to craft the tamper. First impression is this unit is well-made and will likely last for many years to come.

Not bad at all but would prefer wider tamper.
I would give 5 stars if the wide side would be wider. I guess it’s good for smaller jars. Mind is big, I am still looking for wider tamper.

Perfect for the job
I make a lot of small-batch fermented food in canning jars. Some have wide mouths, some have regular. This tamper accommodates both very nicely. The wood is smooth and pleasing aesthetically and the tamper is long enough to get down into even the tall jars. It doesn't feel like it would do any damage if it accidentally struck the side of the jar going in, but I'm not very aggressive with my tamping. I'm very pleased, and even enjoy having it out where I can see it when I'm not using it. It's pretty as well as functional.

Works well on tamping down canning jars too
I purchased this to mash down sauerkraut, but also discovered that it also fits mason jars and can be used to pack in foods into mason jars for water bath or pressure canning.
