What is the maximum load can these take? I appreciate they're quite small so it won't be a lot.

They seem to be made of zinc so their strength will fall over time. I'd not put more than maybe 500g on one.

what is the breaking strain.Has anyone tested them to breaking point

I use them on guylines for a tarp when out sleeping under the stars in the forest, I clip them to the tape loops on the tarp and then peg them out, often very taut if its windy and stormy. As to breaking strain i'm guessing at about 5-8kg max- ish as the gate would start to open as it does not have a lip.
