This Irish Whistle is a great value for the money.
A great Irish Whistle that sells for a very low price. It sounds pretty good, too.

Nice wistle!
This is a nice whistle! Simple, inexpensive, pleasant tone. As far as the "mellow" goes, it's a whistle, so it is still loud, but less so than others. It is equal to a wood recorder in volume by my ears. I'm sure my neighbours love to hear "Concerning Hobbits" every morning at 6AM! Hey, if they are up late partying the night before, well, this is your solution!

Strong lower octave, squeaky higher octave
This whistle has a strong lower octave and nice, resonant bell note (which is why I originally got it.) As a straight bore, it requires more air, so might be a little more challenging for beginners. The higher octaves are also harder to hit and squeak. It's a nice whistle for airs, not so much for jigs. One issue with these whistles, though, seems to be that the bell note (low D) is pretty sharp. You can tune it lower but adjusting the mouthpiece (soak a little in hot water to loosen the glue and pull out slightly), but then the rest of the notes are a bit flat. My final "hack" to tune the bell note was to put a little electrical tape at the bottom to lengthen the bore. It's a $12 whistle, and having notes somewhat out of tune and occasionally squeak is part of the charm I suppose. There's also a bit of variation within these cheaper whistles, so maybe I got one that was more out of tune than usual. And that's ok. I still like using this whistle for slow airs as the lower octave is very nice (once I adjusted the bell note.)

It's a grand little whistle for the price
The Walton's Mellow D whistle arrived sooner than I expected and in perfect condition. Although I had played some woodwinds (clarinet, alto sax) I had never played a whistle and after a few minutes of struggling, I got the hang of it. Within an hour I was playing in both registers. Intonation sounded fine. The whistle was made of a seamless brass tube (unlike the tin whistles, incidentally, which are made of tinned sheet metal soldered together). The plastic fipple looks and feels durable. The tone sounded more or less what I thought it would sound like and, to my ears, is fine. I particularly like the upper register. The whistle was shipped in a mailing tube so there's your case; it's easy to download a fingering chart off the web if you feel the need but, really, you just put six fingers on the holes and take them off one by one. Repeat for the upper register by blowing a might harder. In all, ten bucks, a neat little whistle. I'm pleased.

Made in Ireland
Yes, it's authentically made in Ireland, one of the homes of Celtic music. It's also made of white brass. And that's about the good things about it. The sound is airy. Even more airy than the airy Susato I have. But the main difference is that the airiness in this instrument is not acceptable for my ear. Have I just received a defective product? The Susato Oriole is airy in a sweet pleasant way, and Clarke's Pennywhistle sounds more solid and, well, more Celtic. This is airy where I can't clearly hear the notes I am playing. They seem to instantly dissolve in air. Or should I say: the notes disappear in thin air? No, a lot of air. Airy sounding whistle. I'll just stick to my Clarke and Susato. This one stays in my car.

A Classic Whistle
Although costing more than a "Penny" these days, it's still a terribly inexpensive, yet decent quality instrument to play.

Good tin whistle!
We used this for my homeschoolers’ tin whistle unit. It was easy to handle & use for my kids & provided a good sound.

Good instrument, great times
Great little tin whistle to learn on. I was surprised at how good it sounded and still sounds. I would have no qualms about recommending this little whistle to anyone that was interested in learning to play.

The Walton whistle played about the same as the feadog I tried, which was passable. I still use it occasionally but the cutting edge has burrs on the plastic that make the high notes sound slightly off. This might just be an imperfection on the one I got but I'm not sure as I only got the one. I find myself gravitating to the Clarke sweettone whistles more frequently as they produce cleaner sounds in my opinion. As a beginner, this whistle was tough to get to sound right and after a few weeks, the finish chipped off and the holes were even harder to cover properly. Its not a bad whistle but there are better out there.
