We are going to do this very soon
I am so excited to teach this technique to my kids, for those who have never used it, do a simple you tube search on marbling. Basically you get a big pan of water, than add a dot of color, than put another color in the middle of that dot and so on. Get construction paper, or something thick, and it absorbs the picture you made in the water!! This is so fun, and a kit will last a long time. You could even use this in classrooms. It didn't work well at all with printer paper, but construction paper was good. There is another technique that is included in the box as well, but I haven't learned how to do it... I thought this would be very costly, and was surprised to see if wasn't, so I had to order it. I homeschool my daughter and the bulk of her learning is with arts and crafts. I think we will do this, this week. If so, I'll be sure to take pictures to upload here later. We will do it outside on the carport. I'm not worried about the marbling dye, but the water pan! I'm just going to use a shallow storage bin. I hope this helps

SO much fun!
I've used this kit at home with my niece, as well as with a group of children at summer camp and it's a hit every time! It's also fun for grown ups too! The paints don't run out as fast as I thought they would, they last a while. Any sort of absorbent paper will work with it, I just use sketch paper from a sketch book. You don't really have to worry about using the cardboard dots that come with it, as long as you drop the ink in slowly and close to the surface of the water it will prevent the ink from sinking to the bottom. After you make a few prints, change out your water to avoid dulling your colors. Overall this is a super fun, really interesting activity for kids and adults. My niece and summer camp kids loved saying "Suminagashi!!!!" Lol.

Great project for elementary aged kids.
This was an amazing kit! I had 50 Girl Scout Brownies (2-3rd grade) and we used one box. I have a ton left over. We kept it conservative at 2 colors per girl and used water color brushes to apply the paint to the water's surface as seen in some YouTube videos I had found. They had a blast and each individual image was vibrant and beautiful, completely unique. They had a ton of fun. It was a little tough for the very youngest but every girl made her own cards with little assistance to only a few of them. Beware of the stain cautions....these do stain. They stained the tables-oops!

A bit tricky but nice
Fast shipping as described. Pigments are not strong but they work. Make sure you get a good additive for water or they sink

Easy, economical, and beautiful craft for kids!
This is a great and easy marbling kit and I plan to use it for an after school craft program at the library. A tiny amount of ink goes a long way, so you can really stretch your budget! I bought the packs of 100 sheets of rice paper that Amazon suggested in the "buy together" bundle, and have been very pleased with the vibrant colors that result. I did a few different tests with different types of paper though, to see the difference. I tried Bristol Smooth Surface drawing paper, and found that it produced designs that were very light indeed, even after I manually attempted to remove the sizing by rubbing it under running water. The rice paper had a much more vibrant color so that's what I plan to use with my kids. Getting rice paper wet does make it fragile, so I'm having them fold the sheet in half and treat it as one sheet of paper - that seems to solve the fragility problem. See my photos for examples of the different things I tried.

I feel like i need the thickening agent for the water
I feel like i need the thickening agent for the water, very pastel type colors not very vibrant. Fun for first time learning.. but learn the method by watching a video to get the most from this and to find out all the different ways to do this. Still hoping to get a nice result worth saving. I will purchase the proper paper that could really make a difference in my results since some paper has a coating that resists the ink..

Creates AMAZING prints...even for the little ones
I am absolutely in love with this product!!! I am a preschool teacher and I have used this in my classroom many times. It's gotten so that the children in my class know what Suminagashi means. They love watching the colors and patterns form in the water and then watching it form on their paper. I've used regular white construction paper and have had great results. Parents can't believe that their child made such amazing art. I do recommend that the teacher assist the children in dropping the ink in the water and please wear gloves. It can stain hands, but will eventually wash off. The final product makes great gifts for parents!! I've gotten so many teachers on board with this great product.

and made beautiful designs. Also
I used the Marbling Ink with a group of a girls scouts (Juniors) to create Suminagashi Art. Moreover, I tried to follow the procedures on youtube to create the artwork; place the colors in a palette, dip a paint brush in each color, and drop a blob of into water. This didn't work. for me. So, we just dropped a drop of ink into the water, placed a piece of watercolor paper over the ink spreading out, lifted the paper, and made beautiful designs. Also, after we finished we dumped the paper plates filled with water into a big garbage bag, along with the plastic table cloth we used on top of the table. It made clean up easy. More importantly, the kit is well worth its price and you can make pretty cards, notes, invitations, etc.

Excellent and as advertised.
Great fun... although you can't make the detailed Suminagashi type marbling with this kit... This is due to the use of little paper dots which you drop the ink/paint onto - rather like making a tiny paper boat and dropping a very small amount of washing up liquid on it (stay with me, this was something our parents used to make way back when!...) to make it shoot across a bowl of water; the dots act like those litte boats, and zoom around, so that you can't make the rings for proper Suminagashi - you need the ink to stay where you drop it to do this. And although I tried several times, a lot of the the ink just sank to the bottom without the paper dots, which leaves a messy effect on the paper with no clean white showing through. NB I was rather disappointed that the colours seemed so bright and rather like poster paints for children... But the small drops spread out and become transparent which leaves a much softer colour on your paper - Lovely.

Good value and easy to use
This kit was inexpensive and didn't disappoint. I used a kitchen tray with water for the paints and water colour paper and the first try was amazing. Did it with my 5 year old and he loved it and swirled the paint to make a design. He was so proud he brought it to school to show his teacher. This is really fun art with high end looking results.
