Great moisture retention additive
The granules enlarge to a surprisingly large size when fully wet. There is a spread of particle sizes that result in a better distribution of inflated sizes, which is nice. I use this in grass start areas in hot zones, in pots for indoor plants, etc. When you are gone on vacation these keep the plants alive a bit longer. When I pull up my irises 4 years later, I find the roots tightly wrapped around the Soil Moist "pebbles", so it works. In pots of new seedlings, I layer the dirt and Soil Moist, so that the growing plants discover new "pebbles" as they grow deeper. You can just mix it in with the soil if you want, but that ends up with alot of them coming to the surface as they expand, which is kindof a waste of them. Be careful not to put too much of them into a pot, as there can be significant expansion when fully watered and can overflow your pots.

Great for hanging baskets
These crystals work great for pots and hanging baskets! When I use these crystals, I only water pots and hanging baskets once a day even in the hottest temperatures. Mix a few into the soil when planting. They look like ice cubes when full of water. I recommend these.

Works as described
Used for flower garden. Works best to make hole w/long screwdriver then insert long stainless straw & remove straw carefully , then press dirt over watered beads.

Absorbs a shocking quantity of water!
I've never used a product like this before. But, I live in the desert and found some of my plants suffered between waterings and too much water was being wasted to evaporation.I tested this product by putting a level teaspoon in a 12oz glass of water. In minutes the glass was filled with soft gels! All of the water absorbed and I feel it could have absorbed more! Now this stuff is being mixed with my potted plants to keep the soil from drying out between waterings!!! I use less water and my plants do better with desert sun.

Odor control
Works wonders making you own scented freshener to toss around the house. A little goes a long way so start small and work your way up. Most use it for soil water retention but there's all sorts of useful ways of using different things :)

Yes, these really do work!
I have used these JRM Chemical JCD100SMJ Soil Moist Granules for close to 15 years now. That should tell you something. These soil moist granules go a very, very long way. You do not need to use much of the granules at all and that is good, as this stuff is not cheap. My first one-pound tub lasted me the first 15 years and now I just bought my second one-pound tub. Yes, I did say one of these one-pound tubs lasted me almost 15 years! Of course, this will vary on how much planting each of you does. I would say that each year I pot up around five hanging baskets, a large planter for two tomato plants, and about twenty flower pots of various sizes (medium to large size pots). I do tend to be generous with the amount of granules I use and I probably use a bit too much, but they really do go a long way. I do not have to water my plants as much as I would have too if I did not use this product and plants are very happy at having a longer supply of water. And do be careful, these granules are very small, but get nice and large when water is absorbed. Overall, a great product, and I recommend it.This review is my opinion only and I have not been compensated in any way for it. Paid for it with my hard-earned money.

Easy to incorporate into soil; hope to keep some houseplants happy over the indoor heating season!
Small quantities of product are needed to incorporate into soil before planting to help hold moisture for those plants that seem thirsty all the time. Transplanted a Boston fern which (honestly) most people would have tossed into the compost heap...but it still wanted to live! Hoping with the cooler days coming up and this soil retaining granule that it will keep it happier during the upcoming Wisconsin heating season!
