I just use the existing dryer outlet and have developed an easy routine to unplug the dryer and plug in the evse and vise versa. We’re currently renting and I don’t want to pay to have it done the “right” way... but it’s so simple I’m wondering if I’d even bother to install a dedicated circuit even if I did own the home.

I've had my 220 volt charger for almost 2 months now. This is a high quality product. I've had no problems using it from my garage dryer outlet. It is 50 ft long and lets me charge 3X faster than before. I can now charge outside the garage and the price is 3 excellent. For a minimum cost they will supply you with an adapter that goes from your dryer outlet to their charging cable. I highly recommend this product, especially if you need extra length from the outlet to your vehicle. It barely gets warm and seems to pose no threat of fires.
