What a beautiful, detailed resource! I design costumes for theatre and this was extremely helpful. Every rendering was labeled by year, and the fabric swatches were so helpful as well!

Wer sich für Herrenmode der Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert (konkret sind es die 1890er Jahre) interessiert, hält mit diesem Buch einen wahren Schatz in den Händen. Überwiegend farbige Reproduktionen von Katalogmaterial damaliger Schnitte und Muster machen das Buch nicht zu einem Nachschlagewerk, sondern nehmen den Betrachter jedesmal wieder mit auf eine äußerst anschauliche Zeitreise. Es ist, als ob man ein Fenster in der Hand hielte, das einen direkt auf Straßen, Promenaden, in Straßenbahnen und Salons sehen lässt, um elegante Herren bei ihren Beschäftigungen und im Smalltalk zu beobachten. Sehr angenehm ist, das neben der Kleidung im engeren Sinne fast immer auch Accessoires abgebildet sind. So kann man gut nachvollziehen, welche Schuhe, Gehstöcke, Kneifer, Hüte, Krawatten und Hemdkragen man seinerzeit trug - und wie sie getragen bzw. gehalten wurden. Die reichhaltige Abbildung von Stoffmustern lässt zudem die Vielfalt der Muster erkennen, in denen die Kleidungsstücke erhältlich waren. Ich blättere jedesmal mit höchstem Genuss in diesem Buch - und ich blättere oft darin.Auf jeden Fall sehr empfehlenswert!
