Insightful and fascinating pictorial look at a cradle of electronic innovation in the 20th Century
Mr. Magoun brings a historians trained eye to present a fascinating inside look at RCA's David Sarnoff Research Center; the cradle of countless inventions and contributions to our lives in the second half of the 20th century. (Disclosure: I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Center's technical staff for a decade starting in 1959, but I assure the reader that this review is unbiased (well, maybe a little biased)).The “pictorial essay” format of the book is ideally suited to convey to the breadth of innovation and excitement that was the RCA Laboratories hallmark. From its inception in 1941, and its almost immediate critical contributions to the war effort, to the innovation of all-electronic Color Television, the invention of Liquid Crystal Displays and the first MOSFET integrated circuit (the core of today’s computer technology) , RCA Laboratories played a unique role in shaping much of our lives in the second half of the 20th century. I hope you choose to take this fascinating journey through time!
