Yes, the microphone can be swiveled/rotated around to allow the earpiece to be on either the left ear or the right ear.

Is the indicator light on when using speech recognition?

The indicator lights are meant for Skype functionality. The green LED flashes when there is an incoming call which you can answer by pressing the phone button. It will remains on when you are in a Skype phone call. As for the other red LED, it is indicating if the mute is on.
