For many years, I've kept my fingernails trimmed very short for convenience and practicality for typing, etc. With that, I haven't paid much attention to whether or not they look good. For one thing, I don't like to wear nail polish - it's messy, doesn't last, and isn't good for nail health. I've been a little jealous of my friends' nails, but a lot of them wear acrylics and I didn't want to do that, either. So, I decided to try buffing, and after some research, I ordered the Onsen Secret Japanese Nail Buffer and Shine Kit. It came yesterday, and I used it immediately: file, cuticle cream, and buffer. What a difference! It was so easy to use. The file was great - didn't leave my nails rough at all. The cuticle cream (just a tiny drop on each nailbed) was soothing and absorbed beautifully. And the buffer - WOW!!! I used it as directed, first the silver side, then the green, and then a final polishing buff with the white side. I can't believe the difference in the appearance of my nails! In less than ten minutes, they went from ridged and dull to smooth and glowing with a nice sheen! At age 72, I've finally found a nail care regimen that I not only can live with, but which really shows good results. Yes, I'll still keep my nails short, but now they can look very nice anyway. (I wish I had taken a "before" picture of my nails so you could really see the difference this product has made with just ONE use!)

I read a ton of reviews including the negative ones. I was on the fence but my nails and cuticles were such a mess, I finally ordered the kit. I had been trying a variety of products before this. None really worked. I was thinking about going to get my artificial nails back on after growing them out during the pandemic, but I tried this first. It's been 10 days. Before I get into my hands, let me tell you about my toenails. I've used the nail file and buffer on them and they look amazing after one use. I've never seen them look this great. The cuticles are smooth and it looks like I spend a lot of time taking care of them. The edges are so smooth, nothing like you get at the nail salon. Let me address the cuticle cream. It does not leave your hands feeling sticky. It dries and feels like you have the nail bed to skin "sealed". I have no desire to pick at them. It seems to seal the skin so that it won't peel giving me the urge to pull the peel off. That is a big plus for me. I would buy this just to get the cuticle cream. It's lightweight so not really a cream--more like a light weight lotion that heals. The nail file quickly gets your nails in shape. Much faster than the files I use. It also worked very well on my toenails. Quick. The buffer also works quickly. Follow the instructions on how many swipes to make. This system for the price is the best I can find. You would have to really hunt everywhere to put individual items together that were as good as this system--and it would cost much more. The bonus for me besides the healing cuticle cream is now I can do my toenails in a matter of minutes and they've never looked better. Love this system.

This set did look larger on Amazon site. There is a yellow/brown tint to the items that makes me wonder when they were produced. I really bought the whole set so I could get a nice shine without polish, but it is a soft satin like finish. I have only used the cream for a couple of days, and I must tell you that my cubicles look ten times better already!!! I didn't get the oil, which I thought was included. I feel the price is a bit high which could bear on whether I repeat buy, but my cubicles really are starting to look so nice!

*disclaimer- I do already have healthy, strong nails but I haven’t buffed them in years and they were yellow tinged from years of cheap polish. Huge difference with one use. Love!

I have tried numerous expensive products to fix my severely damaged nails that were perpetually splitting. I have been using this product for 2 days and the results are remarkable.m! My nails look and feel so much healthier. I will be throwing away all of the other products that were ineffective!

Great product

This product works well, but it is not cheap, and I don't know if the cream's formulation is proprietary. The buffer and the file can be purchased for much less, so theoretically, the cost is in the cream, and it's hard to tell if there is something special about it. It seems similar to other nail strengtheners/cuticle creams I have used. I have only been using it a week, so maybe its effect will be greater over the long term, but that remains to be seen.

I love having short nails but it's nice to make them look neat as well, I was using a clear nail polish but this is so much better! My nails are smooth and shiny, they look like they have polish on them and they are also growing like crazy. I highly recommend this kit. I've only used it twice so far and my nails look so much better.

I mainly wanted the buffer, but bought this set as the cost of the buffer and cuticle cream together was virtually the same price as the set which also includes replacement buffer pads and a nail file. The buffer is brilliant! My nails are damaged from many years of wearing acrylics, and despite not wearing them now for some 4+ years they haven't fully recovered. My nails are heavily ridged and have splits along the some of the ridge lines. They are also very dry and dull. I have used other cheaper buffers in the past from time-to-time and whilst they work to a point, none are anywhere near as effective as this Onsen buffer, which is 100% better. I used the buffer for the first time yesterday and today my nails are still super smooth and shiny and look so much healthier. I appreciate my nails aren't 'cured' as such and will likely need ongoing buffing etc., but that's fine and a price I'm willing to pay. I am very impressed with the buffer and highly recommend it for nails like mine. Even if your nails are OK the buffer is worth buying just for using the shinning side! As for the cuticle cream, although my cuticles are fine, I've rubbed it into my nails as the cream says it nourishes the nail if used regularly - I'll have to wait and see on that. The cream is light, non-greasy and pretty much disappears once rubbed it, and is pleasant to use. So, overall I highly recommend this set, especially the buffer. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but it works very well!

I have been using this set for 2 weeks now, and although I will update later on how long-lasting it is, so far so good. I have very weak nails naturally, they are flexible and tend to flake and split from the side edges inwards, and after years of cancer treatments and a chemical menopause, they have now started to show vertical ridges. As I’m still in treatment and not allowed to use nail varnish or remover most of the time, I bought this set in the hope that it would make my nails less embarrassing! The first time I used the buffer, the visible difference was immediate: the beginnings of ridges were smoothed and the nails so shiny they looked as if I had clear nail varnish on them. The shine lasted for a week despite using the cuticle cream on it most nights, until I used the buffer tool again. The cuticle cream is easy to apply and has a light fragrance of garden herbs, and I’m really pleased with how healthy my nails are now looking 👍 In the two weeks I’ve been using the set I haven’t had any splitting or breakage, which is unusual for me but I don’t want to assume this is down to the Onsen products until I’ve used them for a longer period. The buffer surfaces are apparently valid for 10 uses (so 10 weeks if following the box instructions) and it includes a spare set.

I dont go to nail spas often due to time constraints so i appreciated Onsen creating this a nail care kit. To be honest, i didnt expect much cos i've tried a variety of hand creams/cuticle creams and nail files..but boy was i truly amazed! The cuticle conditioner worked like a charm. My super dry cuticles and the surrounding skin were no longer peeling. The conditioner also moisturised the hangnails that were previously present! I am definitely in love with Onsen's nailcare kit. The shine from the buffing block also lasts despite me using the conditioner after buffing. Definitely impressed and will recommend! Thanks very much, Onsen!
