This is the best kitchen appliance ever!!!
Do you ever want to make something in a hurry? Do you often find that you only have bread in the pantry and a few items in the fridge for dinner? This is your product! I bought this about a month ago and I love it. This device only takes about 1.5-2.0 minutes to cook and you can put just about anything in here!! My favorite thing to make for me and my husband is what we call..."the mini pizza" Here is the recipe: 2 pieces of bread (per mini pizza) Ragu spaghetti sauce cheese meat (we like salami) Butter one side of each piece of bread. Put the butter side down on the grill. Spoon out some Ragu sauce onto the bread. Then take your cheese of choice and sprinkle the cheese onto the Ragu sauce. Take your salami (or any meat you want) and lay it on top of the cheese. Put the other piece of bread (butter side up) on top of the meat and close the lid. Soooo good!!! The lid takes a little bit of strength to close but don't worry, you are not going to ruin the mini pizza or sandwich. Just keep pressing down. Wait until the green light comes on and you are all set!! Enjoy. This was the best 20 dollars I have spent. We use it at least once to twice a week...if not more. I also put just cheese in the sandwich. My husband likes to put a bunch of lunchmeat, cheese and mustard in it. No matter what you decide, it will be good. This is also safe for kids to use. (with supervision) It is easy and fun to make. The cleanup is a little annoying I have to admit. The bread crumbs and cheese get melted on the side and into the little crevices and it makes it a little difficult to clean. But all you need is a paper towel and you pretty much wipe it down and you are done. You will not regret buying this!! So, go for it!! Get it and make your future favorite snack this week!! Thanks for reading!! Take care.

Simple, cheap - but really great toasties
At $20 this toastie maker is excellent value. Pro So cheap it is almost disposable It seals sandwiches closed which is great for stuffed sandwiches - this is not a pannini press Non-stick makes clean up easy as melting cheese etc. will ooze out as it melts Cons The teflon coating is very thin so look after it - no metal, ever, for freeing stuck sandwiches - always use a wooden or plastic spatula. (Seriously - no exceptions!) This is my 2nd unit of these. The first (which I had and used heavily for over 3 years) I damaged the teflon by not following the rule above. It still works just sandwiches don't come free easily. Best advice - use margarine on the outside top and bottom sides of the bread for best toastiness. Only use margarine not butter and make sure the margarine is the kind you can cook with (not low or no fat etc. it will say on the side if you can cook with it)

Good but not perfect
I needed a sandwich maker to make some occasionally for snack or for my kids to take as lunch. We decided not to spend $50 on a gadget we would only use once a week or so. This is a great price for a unit that makes two sandwiches at the same time. Here are the features in this machine that I liked: 1. You can make two sandwiches at a time. Four slices of bread. Pepperidge Farm slices will not fit,so use regular sized bread. I've used white and wheat and both came out fine. 2. There is indeed even heating from both top and bottom. I did not find any side to be overcooked. 3. This is BPA free. Important given all we now know about BPA. 4. The plates are nonstick. I've made sandwiches with too much filling or cheese. Whatever is stuck to the plate is easily wiped off with a damp paper towel after allowing it to cool. Here's what I didn't like: 1. The unit comes with indicator lights. Red for cooking and green for done. I have never yet been able to use it to where I let it go to green. I like my sandwiches to be slightly crispy on the crust but not burnt. So if you're like me, you'll want to keep an eye out and your nose open to tell you when you're done. 2. I would have so much appreciated a timer bell or something to indicate that the sandwiches are done. I have to keep an eye out for them anyway, so this is not such a big deal. And for the price, I'm happy with what I'm getting for something I'm only going to use once a week at max. The first time I used this, there was a slight chemically smell. I recommend throwing away the first set of your sandwiches, or rather a slice of bread in each pocket. Overall, it does a great job of making sandwiches that we can enjoy. (Think grilled sandwiches, mashed potatoes and diced peppers, leftovers inside hot toasty bread).

Great for lightly browned sandwiches and grilled cheese!
This is a great product, easy to use (green light comes on when it is ready) and easy to wipe clean. Because of the nonstick, you don't even need to spray butter or put butter on the outside of the bread. You can make two sandwiches at one time. The heating is perfect for a lightly browned sandwich. When you close your sandwich in on the grill, it will smash down the edges and the middle at a diagonal. The diagonal then provides you a nice line to cut your sandwich in half. Warning: Do not overstuff your sandwich or it will leak, especially cheese. Keep a 1/4 inch border from the edge of the bread clear for best results when it smashes down. Some of the other reviews mentioned that the plastic clasp may break. I can see how that might happen, but after several months of careful use, we have not had an issue. We highly recommend slicing a boiled egg and putting it on the sandwich with just a hint of butter on the inside part of the bread. So yummy and simple!

Awesome little toaster!
Love... Love... Love... I love this thing. My mom used to make "pizza pockets" for me when I was little. Well, I purchased a sandwich maker some years ago at Best Buy and last year it died on me, and I hadn't replaced it since now. And now, lo and behold, that craving was coming back! ** Helpful tips ** This sandwich maker doesn't have the strongest handle. The best way to compress your sandwich is to just use your hands and carefully flatten it down on a place. Then, add to your grill. It takes the added stress off the handle. The best bread? I use plain "grocery store brand" square or round top white bread. Nothing larger. Any brand can work; Sunbeam, etc. Just as long as it's small slice white bread, you'll be fine. Go easy on the cheese. Once slice of cheese can easily melt out of this, depending on the fillings. If you sort of pile anything melt-able in the middle of the bread, you'll be leaving it room to melt. Make sure to portion your toppings. You don't want to use too much; example, 6-9 slices of pepperoni on a slice of bread, add a spoonful of pizza sauce and maybe a 3/4 slice of cheese broken up away from the edges). Gently flatten sandwich, pop in grill, and wait until it's toasted. I like mine extra toasty, so I have to add less cheese to prevent spillage.

Useful with a Few Annoying Shortcomings
I purchased this for the convenience of knocking out a few quick sandwiches for the kids. For this, it does the job, however there are a few things that make it a lot less convenient than it could be. 1. There is no lock to keep it open. This is not a big deal unless something bumps the table it's on while it's open or unless you are moving it while open. Although most people might not hit on the above situations, the sandwich maker closing on your finger just once is enough to wonder why there's not a simple latch on the side to lock it open when necessary. 2. The other thing is that it is not as simple to clean as just wiping it down. In my maker, the cheese always finds a way to leak out the back where there are a few screws and hard to clean areas for the cheese to get into. A smart designer could definitely come up with a plan. 3. I've never been a fan of appliances that use being plugged in or not as a replacement for an on/off switch. Plug it in to heat it up and unplug it when you're done... there has to be a better safer way to turn it on and off. 4. I know that it's not designed for huge "dagwood" level sandwiches but with anything beyond a few slices of cheese and maybe some turkey, it becomes harder and harder to close and more and more of the cheese or sauces used squirt out the back of it and onto the aforementioned screws. It makes good simple grilled cheese sandwiches but because of the thickness limitations and the inconvenient clean-up and unpredictable cheese leakage, we only use it for the occasional grilled cheese or grilled turkey and cheese sandwich. I would use it more if I could make something a little thicker or if clean up were a bit easier to do. Thus 3 stars for it's usability and convenience of use, but only 3 stars because of the inconvenient clean up and limitations despite including recipes that imply room for thicker or more creative sandwiches.

Bought for Christmas
I bought this little gadget for my son who travels up & down the East Coast (business) so as you can see he is extremely busy. With this I thought he could get better, and faster sandwiches and be healthier choices of fillers in the bread he chooses. I actually put about 1/4" thick Salmon (cut into the shape of the cooking area) in there and it cooked nicely, I had to watch I did 2 mins. and then kept resetting til it was done, about 3 mins. taste was great! So I give it 2 thumbs up for Cooking & Time saved= one starts his, another guy would put their sandwich to their liking, and 1st sandwich would be done by the time the 1st one is done 2 thumbs for the size and can place in the drawer with ease 2 thumbs for the cost very reasonable 2 thumbs up for easy to clean, be sure to do so while hot with paper towel.

I make everything but sandwiches with mine!
I love sandwich makers. I think that they are something that most of us first experienced when we were young and then forgot about them. I have been following a low carb diet and one day it occurred to me that if I had one of these I can use it to make my omelets and crust less quiches. Oh and fritters. I haven't tried them yet but plan to try to create a fritter using something besides flour. The possibilities are really endless with this.. This sandwich maker has worked like a charm. I've used it every day for the last 2 weeks and it cooks evenly and consistantly. The heat is a gentle steady heat which makes it perfect for my uses. I like the fact that it gives you a green light when it's ready and that I can wrap the cord up on the back when I'm done. You can't submerge this to clean it, but the non stick surface makes clean up a breeze. The only caution I offer is be careful not to overfill it or you will have a mess! Hate it n unble to return
On first time use it was giving off plasticky smoke, same thing happened the second time.......the plates are not deep enough to have a good stuffing.......size of the plate is too small for sandwich sized bread slice n too big for regular sized bread slice as available here at my place was late by a day to return it as the window closed within 17 day of delivery which was not highlighted, so am left with a sandwich maker with size which is neither big nor deep n is smoking toxic fumes that i am afraid to use anymore

Useful and cheap
Nice product for a cheap price. Would have been beneficial if cuisinart made these out of stainless steel

It's a little hard to clean
Makes absolutely just delicious sandwiches. Use it for pizza pockets is especially delicious. I find up the sandwiches a little thick it's kind of hard to squeeze shut. But once it's shut it takes no time to make the sandwich
