This utensil has a base to catch the water. However, I do not use it to drain utilities in it.

Is this any good for a scrabble board to rotate it in the direction of other players!

It is decades since I played scrabble, so I don't know what size the board is. It would probably work OK, but be aware that the plate has a lip on it - it's not a flat surface. If you fastened the board to the plate with a bit of blu-tac you'd avoid any chance of slippage.

What is the diametre of the utensil holder. I want to make sure it is at least as wide as the one I wish to replace.

15cm or 6 inches appox I think it is fabulous. It holds all my utensils. I've got 15 utensils in mine.
