Strong, Cohesive collection of Patterns that give options for any age
There are a lot of theme knit pattern books out there and most of them are not very good, but this one is impressive in the quality of the patterns and the cohesiveness of the theme.Stephanie Dosen is no luddite that is for sure, She covers everything from cables, to intarsia, reversible knit and felting and a beautifully detailed imagination. The designs are very well developed, have clarity and she not only has provided a stitch dictionary but a very useful yarn information chart as well. Which is great because her eye for color, particularly natural colors that would actually appear in nature is acute. She also offers side notes, observation, advice and suggestions for alterations. When an author writes as tho' she is right there with you this is always a nice personal touch. And as I mentioned before cohesive. Every single pattern in here pertains to or is influenced by the forest. Yes this will probably be on no use to an urbanite, but I'm from Wyoming and I can think of somebody I would make most of these for. The nice thing about this collection is that there really is a nice variety of items that would stretch nicely over many age groups. This is a plus as most theme pattern books are really geared towards teens or young adults. The bear hoodie in here would be just a nice for a grandmother as it would a child. The Garden Gate and Ivy cowl and the Changling collar are rather sophisticated and geared more towards an adult. And yes there are whimsical pieces in here clearly for the younger set: Fairy wings, headbands and the tiny violet hand poof would be adorable on a child. The book as a whole is a work of art really. The pictures, layout, paper quality and the decorative edging all give it an air of beauty, whimsy and craftmanship. A true labor of love.

I Love this Book
I love this book. I bought it at half price books here in Columbus, Ohio. I have already made the Dragon Watcher's Hood. I am working on the Deer with Little Antlers Hat.Pros:Easy to read and understand.Gives extra directions where needed. The Moonbeam Duster and the meow mitts have sizes up to XXL and XL respectively with measurements. The writer is hilarious. The Antler Hat has finished circumference measurements. So, me with my big head could adjust the stitches before starting.ConsThe bind off on the Dragon Watcher's Hood is a simple thread and cinch, instead of a true bind off. Which seems lazy to me and doesn't look/wear as good. I actually did a bind off.The Dragon Watcher's Hood IS kinda plain. I added a couple rows of Garter Stitch to make some horizontal ribbing right after the folded brim channel. I may add a tiny crocheted dragon to finish it off.All the other sweaters/ponchos are only in size large. The Catching Butterfly fingerless gloves are one size.

I'm in Love (Again)!
I have loved Stephanie Dosen's work ever since I saw her work on Ravelry a few years ago. This book has been a long time wish of mine and I am so happy she finally published a book with some of her patterns in it.Now while it has several patterns I dearly love (like the Deer Hat With Antlers), I fell she should have put some other patterns in this book that she didn't (so I am hoping another book is in the works). I would have loved to have had Beekeeper's Quilt, The Woodsy Association, Forget-Me-Not, Gypsy Petticoat, or Forest and Frill in this book (but alas, they are not here). It's just that for the number of patterns I would like to knit from this beautiful creator, I can't really afford to spend 5-7 bucks per pattern, so this collection of her works for about 20 bucks (that I can take with me anywhere), was a godsend. I just really hope she makes another collection and puts some of the aforementioned patterns in it.Other than that, I am still in love with this book. The patterns are whimsical and cute. Super playful. I just have an absolute blast knitting her stuff (I am in the middle of knitting my own Beekeeper's Quilt, as a matter of fact). I get compliments all the time on my version of her Deer with Antlers hat (seen on the cover) and man, I just really, really love her work.So if you read this Ms. Dosen, please, please, please think about putting out another collection of your work. It's amazingly fun and cute and I have a blast with your knitting patterns. :)

Quirky and fun knits from Stephanie
I first came across Stephanie Dosen through her blog Tiny Owl Knits [...] which I heartily recommend if you want to get a taste of her style. I was delighted when she published this book and spent some of my birthday amazon voucher on it.Stephanie has a very chatty and enthusiastic style and not only are her designs stunning, but the patterns and instructions are easy to follow. I would have liked to see some kind of alternative yarn information given as on occasion I have had problems sourcing the exact yarns she recommends with the patterns but not many books do this and as I'm quite capable of looking things up on the internet and doing my own weight and yardage comparisons this wasn't enough for me to give less than 5 stars. Someone new to knitting might not be quite so au fait but the information is out there. Newbies just be aware that yardage/metreage is just as important to note as tension, yarn weight and needle size when sourcing alternatives!I can't say I'll be making every pattern in the book (don't quite see myself in fairy wings!) but I will be making enough to more than justify the cost of the book. I'm starting with Mr Fox Stole My Heart because I fell in love with this when I first saw it on her blog, but if you want something smaller or simpler then there is plenty of choice. To be honest I wouldn't say this was a book for beginners simply because most of the patterns will require a certain amount of experience but there is a handy experience level indicated with each pattern so you can see how difficult or easy you may find it. For inspiration, though, this book can't be faulted and anyone who either likes a fun knit for themselves or other adults, or has children or teenagers to knit for, I don't think you can go wrong.

intriquingly fay
Interesting and quirky patterns with, unfortunately, some crocheted aspects, and I just have never learned how to crochet; shame on me! I might make an effort to learn, as am dying to make the violet hand muff (or 'puff' as Steph calls it). Not sure about the fairie wings though. I can just imagine happening upon the local hunt whilst trundling through the wood wearing those. Would certainly cement my reputation for eccentricity...

Woodland Knits
Quirky book of odd knitting patterns which delighted my wife and formed the basis of a fair number of unusual hand knitted Christmas presents which were well received. Some of the patterns were a bit ambiguous which might cause novice knitters a few problems, but otherwie would recommend it for anyone looking for odd animal influenced designs. The front covers says it all!

great for knitting on the go!
Lovely book with well written patterns. I've bought it before and gave it my friend As she loved it so much. It's quite compact, so it fits well into a knitting bag which is handy As many of the projects are accessories that you may be knitting on the go!

A Magical Knitted Woodland Journey
This great book has easy to follow patterns with wonderful fairytale woodland themes. The little deer hat, pictured on the front cover, and the seed pod bag are seriously cute. There's a beautiful tiny violets hand puff, knitted fairy wings, woodland hoodlet, scarves, mitts, hats, everything you could need to finish off your own fairytale outfit. The Midsummer Nights Dream hat is simply stunning. So many wonderful things to make...I'm starting with the Dragon Watchers Hood!!! Highly recommended. I showed the book to some knitter friends and two ordered it that same day!
