One of the best I tried until now. Compared ppm of natural gas with reading from a 10000 dollars equipment and was in 0.8% tolerance 9 of 10 times. Still wonder how they could achieve that.

I don't often write reviews but this came in really handy when I had the gas rerouted through my property. When everything was connected, the engineer still noticed a drop in pressure (using an old school Manometer). I then whizzed out this little device that I had bought the previous day. Being told that your gas needs to be capped because there's a gas leak in your property is quite the incentive to buy a few devices and sensors. Using this device we soon spotted the issue. It felt like the engineer was playing along to see whether a cheap consumer device would be any good. Well it was and seemingly TracPipe fittings are rather temperamental. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations due to the price. Also, I have no idea if the quantified measurements are anywhere near the real values but when you have readings of zero, a few hundred and a few thousand PPM that is enough of an indication really. Would I trust this device on its own? Probably not. An old school Manometer doesn't lie, while when using an electric device there's always a little doubt in my mind. But for spotting the origin of leaks, this is such a handy device to have lying around. This device eats through batteries though but I don't really mind... You just need it to function for a short time, hopefully.

Great product. Reads out directly in ppm of sniffed natural gas. Has two ranges of sensitivity (low and high) when the preset warning levels are exceeded (500 low, 1000 high) the white digits are turned red. Even so, both of these limits are well below being explosive. Other units in same price range or even some more expensive only display a relative "explosiveness estimate". As a retired, long-time engineer, I like to have a number put on readings. I've caught a minor whiff of gas smell whenever going up or down my basement stairs literally for years. But it would come or go. I used this device to zero in exactly on a microscopic leak in a cap on a nipple pipe where the former owners---decades ago---had a 2nd gas range hooked up in the basement for summertime cooking. The cap was butting up against the wood of the stairs and 60 or more years of stair climbing and descending created enough vibration to eventually put a tiny crack in the pipe dope sealing the cap's connection. I was able to guide plumbers directly to the problem point and they had the problem permanently fixed within minutes. (I draw the line on my own plumbing work to simple tasks and DO NOT ever mess with natural gas.) I sniffed out their work afterward with the AGT-1385 to assure that the fix's new connections were properly sealed. I'm happy with the device and happy with the plumbers' work. The only caution I need to give a purchaser of ANY gas sniffer is that they all use a sensor that needs at least 15 seconds to heat up in order to give a valid reading. The device does a countdown to assure proper waiting time before allowing a measurement to be made. Since heating elements need a good dose of battery current to do their work, this eats up batteries pretty quickly. So, do keep a supply of AAA batteries (alkaline ones) available if you're going to use the device over a number of hours. This is a minimal inconvenience for the peace of mind that you're not just imagining gas smell, or not tracking one or more down in your home to avoid bigger problems. This unit is the one you want.
