The Perfect Lock
I finally found the perfect lock. I never leave reviews but I was so frustrated in my search for the perfect lock and so happy with what I found, I thought I would recount my saga to help anyone in my same position. I am an iPhone/iPad guy that likes to use Google Home wherever possible. It is a little tough to manage integration with Siri and Google Assistant but I mostly have it licked - except for the lock which had been the bane of my existence. I started with the Yale Nest lock. Should work great with google, right? It does, except google can only lock the door, not unlock it. I understand why for security purposes, but it defeated the purpose I was looking for - not having to use a key OR the keypad when my hands were full. I wanted quick and easy entry. I was going to set up a simple Siri shortcut so I could tell my Apple Watch to unlock the door, and it would tell Google. No dice. Strike one. I next tried the Sledge Sense. It says it works with Google Assistant and Siri. I knew going in that Google would not unlock this door either, but I read that Siri would. I figured I could make this work. I’ll leave all my google routines for inside the home (lock doors before bed, lock doors for when I am about to leave, etc.) and then just use a Siri routine for returning home (unlock door and disarm security system). Strike 2. First, the Sense does work with Google and HomeKit, but not at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. So no double routines. Still figured I could just cut the locking out of my Google routines by making it auto lock and then run it just on HomeKit to unlock with Siri. This kind of worked, but your iPhone has to be unlocked in order for Siri to unlock the door. This means that you cannot use Siri to unlock the door with your Apple Watch while the phone is in your pocket. So still not accomplishing the easy entry I was looking for. I was tired of spending money on locks that didn’t do what I wanted and about to give up when I decided I would give this one a try. And I struck gold. First of all, it works with Siri and Google, though I didn’t even bother to set it up with Siri because of the geofencing discussed below. Second, Google actually CAN lock AND unlock this one, unlike the other 2. You do have to speak your code Google to unlock which still makes quick entry awkward, but at least you can use google to unlock the door for a visitor if you are in another room of the house. But the best part is you don’t need to rely on Google OR Siri to unlock the door for yourself when coming home. Just set up geofencing with the Bluetooth on your iPhone, and it will unlock automatically when you get close. This has everything I was looking for in a lock. It seems to be well built and was easy to set up and get running. It still has a few little quirks that are annoying but not fatal. My only real complaint is how you wake up the keypad if you want to do a manual code entry. You would think you would press the home icon on the top but you would be wrong. You might also hope that you could touch anywhere on the screen to wake it up, but that’s not it either. Instead, you have to press on the bottom left hand side of the screen where the check mark would be (except you can’t see the check mark at that point because the screen is asleep). This is not a big deal at all once you get used to it, but I could see this being very confusing if I have a guest coming to my house and I just give them the code to punch in for the door. I’m sure I will be getting a few calls that the keypad “doesn’t work." I wish they would fix this. Also, I don’t think you can manage pin codes from the app. It appears you have to do this from the keypad. I might be wrong as I haven’t looked into this very much yet, but if you are someone who manages a lot of key codes (Airbnb), you need to look into this and this may not be the lock for you. Otherwise, I am so very thankful that I took a chance on this lock. It is everything I was looking for and more. I am buying 2 more for my other doors!

With or without alexa is all good.
I use this stand alone with no Alexa. Wifi connection allows remote administration of lock. Bought it for the Geo fencing hands free auto unlock which works flawlessly as long as your phone Bluetooth is on. Setup was a bit wonky. App Kept failing to find lock. Reinstalled app, repowered lock and worked fine. Simple but capable app. It has guest code “keys” you can give out that expire single use, or by time. Mine set to auto relock if unlocked after 5 mins. However, u should install provided (or any) magnet in the door frame so lockset knows if the door is ajar, and Not to throw the lock/deadbolt. Can mess up your trim if you slam door shut while bolt is thrown via auto Lock. Update I tried the magnet and it seems the one provided is just too small to work calibrate correctly. Instead I sunk a three-quarter inch diameter ceramic magnet x 1 inch long in a three-quarter inch hole in the door frame right at the height of the yale logo. Big chunky old-school magnet not neodium - (too much power). It calibrate beautifully it won’t throw the bolt until it’s almost completely latched. Pretty accurate. Then I change the time relock setting to “immediately relock” upon door close - works great when entering or leaving. One tap on keypad locks from outside or auto re-lock does it. App gives a rolling time stamped history of everything the lock has ever done. Easy install.

Great lock, easy to install while connectivity isn't so easy
My initial review is below, I was ready to give this almost five stars. However, now after the Wi-Fi bridge stopped working after two years and the support response initially was “buy a new bridge” I do not recommend this locomotive or any Yale product. When I contacted them and went through the trouble shooting steps they gave no explanation as to what might have happened or any other assistance. Then after much back and forth and some arguing was offered a 20% coupon code which makes the cost from their website the same price as on Amazon. That’s no deal and no way to stand behind your product. Avoid this lock. Based on cnet and wire cutter reviews I’ve ordered an Ultraloq with built in WiFi and will review that once it arrives. Initial review before the WiFi bridge died is below. I do not recommend this lock or any Yale products. This is a great lock. Easy to install and fits to replace almost any existing deadbolt. It's attractive and works well. If you set it up to do so, it will auto unlock if you have your phone with you and get close to the door, great when you have your hands full. You can also assign codes to repair people or contractors remotely and receive alerts when they go in and out. The rub it getting it online. It has to be connected to a 2.4 ghz network and will not work properly if it is connected to a dual 2,4/5 ghz network. I also experienced a situation where the serial number for the wifi module included with the lock was different that what was actually in the box. Yale phone tech support - on a Saturday no less - was outstanding! The rep and I walked through the set-up issues and then discovered the serial number issue. If they could make this lock connect to 5 ghz networks I'd give it five stars.

The lock itself is great but setup and instructions are terrible.
The lock itself is great but setup and instructions are terrible. Yale paper instructions are OK but say to scan a nonexistent QR code for Yale app instructions or use BILT by downloading another nonexistent QR code. The Yale app uses different instructions than the August app which differ from the paper instructions. August had me install the door sensor under the deadbolt which doesn’t work with this lock so I had to drill another hole on my door frame above the deadbolt as per the Yale instructions. The door sense still didn’t work in either spot. Neither app connects to Bluetooth or wifi or tells you how to do so. I had to search for other people’s instructions to get the bridge working. Finally got it working after several hours wasted following terrible instructions. It does work well once setup but setup could be much easier and better documented. I deleted the Yale app and am just using the August app because both appear identical.

Great for AirBNB hosts
I ordered this lock in the August Connect version because I am a frequent AirBNB host. I could have easily installed this lock plus an updated door handle myself, but the holes in the door were too small, so I ended up paying a locksmith to do it so I wouldn't have to mess with a jig drill bit. This may not be an issue for all doors (my house is older - so smaller knobs/locks all around). After the lock, August module, and batteries were in, it did take some time to connect it with the August Connect (that has to be plugged into an outlet). I had to try multiple times but I finally got it installed correctly. The iPhone app now works perfectly, and I connected my AirBNB account within the August app as well. The hardware was not the easiest to get to cooperate with the app so that was annoying and I give that 3 stars for ease of installation, but now that it is up and running, I love it. I have gotten a couple bookings since integrating, and August automatically will e-mail a code to AirBNB guests and then CC me on it so that I will know what it is. The guests then show up under the users section of the app, and are automatically assigned temporary random codes that only work between the check-in date/time until the check-out date/time. After that, the codes get automatically deleted. I am excited that I will not have to exchange keys with guests anymore or use a lockbox and it will be fantastic to not have to think about manually assigning or removing codes either for the AirBNB folks. I also set up auto-unlock based on location, and now when I get home, the door unlocks when I walk up to it. No need to get out my keys or use the keypad which is also great when my hands are full of grocery bags or other items. I assigned permanent codes to my boyfriend, my dad, and one other relative, and the August app notifies when any of them or AirBNB guests lock or unlock the door. I also like the activity feed within the app that shows every time the door was open, closed, or locked/unlocked. Super useful. Finally, I also installed the Alexa skill (for me, I used the August skill) and I can lock/unlock using voice. For unlock, it requires you to provide a PIN. I also set up auto-locking after 5 minutes, so that AirBNB guests don't have to mess with trying to figure out how to lock it or possibly accidentally leave it unlocked. Great investment. 5 stars for lock feature, 3 stars for easy installation, and 5 stars for Alexa integration.

Worth it
Honestly was hesitant due to the reviews. The hole for my door was too small as it was an old lock so I hired a locksmith for $100 to do the physical install and I programmed it. I'm pretty good with technology, only ran into one issue but there is a GIANT BRIGHT piece of paper for customer care and they promptly answered and ran me through it. It does auto unlock for me with my phone, sometimes I have to wait a couple seconds, on the rare occasion it doesn't open. You know it won't open if the August app doesn't put a notification on your phone. The August app asks you when you're in the neighborhood if it should stay active or not. It has auto locked on me when I take the trash out so see it as a nice security feature. Works with Google home. I can ask her if it's locked or to lock it. BUT to unlock it you have to tell her your master code. No big deal you have a phone to do so. Lock is very responsive to phone. I've had it for a couple months now wanted to wait to review it. Has made my daily life easier, it's nice to walk up to an unlocked door. I would note that my condo is at the top of one flight of stairs so it does have the added time of me climbing the stairs for it to unlock and it is usually unlocking when I reach the top. So I could see how it would be unreliable for others as maybe they don't have stairs to climb and it needs to be quicker. You can tell where my fingers have pressed but I fix that by wiping it with my hand bc it's just the oils on the glass. Love the one touch locking. Would buy it again, don't regret it at all its great. I think a lot of people don't know how to do the install, and how the giant bright customer care sheet is missed by many is beyond me. Not that hard. Will take a couple hours to install.

Great Lock!!! East to physically install but a little more difficult to setup the smart features!
This lock works great. It unlocks/locks automatically, works remotely with Amazon Alexa and tells me whether the door is open or closed (via door sense). The lock itself is solid feeling (metal and plastic but not cheap feeling). It was simple to install the lock physically, but it was a bit more difficult pairing it with Alexa and my phone. Not hard enough to turn you away though. The only issue is that if you have more than one Yale Assure locks in your house, you can only have one door auto unlock when you come home. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this lock to anyone.

Yale needs to fix a bug
This door lock has a sensor for it to tell if the door is open, yet the timed lock function will still lock the door while it is open. I don’t know how many times the lock bot has slammed into the door molding because of this. This should be an easy fix for their software yet two years later and the bug still exists. Very annoying.
