Great Book
The book was in great shape and got here quickly. General John Stark is one of my favorite heroes of the American Revolution and as a fellow son of the Granite State I grew up knowing about him. I have visited his boyhood home and been to the park named for him in Manchester, NH. I haven't finished the book yet but what I have read so far it is well written and enjoyable.

Excellent Account of a True Revolutionary Hero
Well-written, detailed, and engaging history of a most consequential man and the momentous years in which he lived, which spanned the latter period of the Colonial era (including the French and Indian War) and the Revolution. It took me a few pages to get used to the authors' writing style, but I quickly warmed to it and thoroughly enjoyed learning so many of the important details as well as the "big picture" of the era. The general's rich personal life story is seemlessly weaved into the broader story line. One doesn't need to be a student of history to appreciate it. Engrossing and fascinating read!

ONE OF THE UNSUNG GETS HIS DUE
ONE OF NEW ENGLAND'S RUGGED, HARDSCRABBLE FRONTIERSMEN, JOHN STARK IS GIVEN HIS DUE IN THIS WELL-WRITTEN BIOGRAPHY. TOUGH, ADVENTUROUS, AND PATRIOTIC, THE RANGER AND REVOLUTIONARY WAR HERO COMES ACROSS AS A PATRIOT AND COMBAT LEADER WHO KNEW ABOUT WAR AND HOW MEN NEEDED TO BE LED. THE AUTHORS HAVE PLACED THIS MAN IN THE PROPER LIGHT. AS A BOY GROWING UP IN NEW ENGLAND, I READ ABOUT JOHN STARK. AS A CAREER US MARINE WITH A LOT OF COMBAT BEHIND ME, I NOW KNOW HIM BETTER. GIVE THIS ONE A READ - AND REVEL IN THE BREED OF PATRIOT THAT WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEDROCK OF OUR GREAT NATION. LIVE FREE!!!

One of the best books I read in the past couple of years ...
One of the best books I read in the past couple of years on a mostly forgotten hero of the Revolution. Stark's name comes up often in other books about key battles of the war or biographies of well known leaders but this is the first I've seen on John Stark. It was very interesting and kept my interest throughout the entire book.

I was expecting a work with many more details of ...
I was expecting a work with many more details of the life of John Stark and particulars about his participation in the battles in which he took part in ;especially Bennington. Instead this book was a rather general survey of the times where Stark's contributions played a part.If I wanted to get a feel of John stark the man ,this book did not do it. For example in comparison to Higginbotham's book on Daniel Morgan this read falls way short. I actually got to know more about Robert Rodgers than Stark.

Best history book I've read
Amazing book, I grew up in NH and knew nothing of this in school, what a tragedy. Schools are a fail, great book. Thank you for the education.
