Review: Better PlungeRouter for the Money - What a Fantastic Plunge Router, Smooth as a Babies Butt. A Must buy if you’re Looking to Upgrade. You would have to spend several Hundreds of dollars more to purchase a Nicer one. Love the led lights, hand controls, variable speed and Nice storage case. Money Well Spent Review: great powerhouse router - LOVE this router. Plenty of power, smooth starting and operating. Very good ergonomics - love the trigger mechanism. VS covers a good range, soft-start is great - no bucking when starting. It also holds steady speed/power under load ... and I have pushed on this guy just to see if I could bog it down. I stopped short of being stupid /unsafe before I had bogged it! Fixed base does it's thing well, and plunge base is smooth, precise and overall great. Can't say enough good things. The ONLY downside I can find to this router is the weight - it is heavy. BUT any router of this power will be - heft comes with the power territory. It balances very well and is manageable despite the weight. I have had, oh, maybe a dozen routers over the last 25yr, still have many ... this is by far the most powerful + smoothest. Ideally, this would occupy the slot of "large router" in a shop and you'd have a trim router (and maybe a midsized too...) for lighter tasks. I honestly reach for a smaller one more often ... but this is an invaluable part of my lineup. In the role of large/power router, this one is unsurpassed IMHO. ## Features - PRECISION: trigger-control system located in handle for enhanced control; precision-center design makes it easy to keep bit on cutline - SPEED: features fast, 2.3 Horsepower, soft start motor; variable speed dials let you set the speed you need for the job - POWER: power through tough routing tasks with a 15 Amp variable speed motor, 2.3 Horsepower and a variable speed range between 10,000 and 25,000 RPM - VERSATILE: fixed-base depth adjustment features 1-5/8 in. continuous microfine adjustment range - COMPATIBILITY: router table compatible with threaded holes make fixed base router table moun - INCLUDES: motor, fixed base, plunge base, (1) 1/4 in. self-releasing collet chuck, (1) 1/2 in. self-releasing collet chuck, (1) 16mm shaft wrench, (1) 24mm collet nut wrench, (1) t-handle hex height adjustment wrench, (1) 3pk M4 screws for table mounting and a carrying case ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B002LASDGA | | Amperage | 15 A | | Base Type | Fixed, Plunge | | Battery Description | Corded electric | | Best Sellers Rank | #239,333 in Tools & Home Improvement ( See Top 100 in Tools & Home Improvement ) #80 in Routers | | Brand | Bosch | | Brand Name | Bosch | | Color | Black | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 733 Reviews | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00000346391503 | | Horsepower | 2.3 | | Included Components | Motor, Fixed and Plunge Bases, 1/4 In. and 1/2 In. It isn’t. It’s actually a lot more powerful. The 1617 is 12 amps, which with some math comes out to 1.85 HP not the advertised 2.25. The MRC23 is 15 amps, which is 2.3 HP The reason for the confusion is for the 1617 Bosch advertises 2.25 HP. But that’s not continuous - it’s max developed which includes the inertia of the spinning motor which means to use it you’d be slowing the motor down. Not the right way to use a router or any power tool. Basically it’s a marketing trick - we have Sears to thank for this back in the 70’s. But Bosch had a strange flash of honesty on the MRC23 and called it 2.3 HP, which it has continuous. Also, routers from competitors quote 3.25 HP. That’s the same trick - they are 15 amps also and that’s 2.3 HP continuous. Pay attention to the amps. Volts * amps/746 is horsepower. **Q: Does it come with an edge guide?** A: No, it an accessory. Look for Bosch #RA-1054. I would also suggest buying the sub base centering cone #RA-1151 and dust hood kit #RA-1177AT which fits Bosch or Fein vacuums and has adapter for other vacuums. Dust collection is very important with routers. Bosch has other accessories for this router so look on Bosch's website. **Q: What adapter is required for use with the PC adapter kit for PC dovetail gig.** A: You will need the Bosch Quick Change Template Guide Adapterhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HPUP80/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00and the Bosch RA1100 Threaded Router Template Guide Adapterhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009H5INI/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00The problem is that most places don't carry the quick change adapter, not even DIRECT from Amazon. So you have to buy it from Woodcraft online (I purchased it from Woodcraft through Amazon). I checked my local Woodcraft store and it was not available. The shipping is nearly as much as the adapter! This is a key part because without it you can't mount anything to the stock base plate for this router. You could change out the clear plastic baseplate and get a PC compliant one, but that may just open up a new set of problems. The RA1100 threaded adapter fits into the quick change adapter and it allows you to screw in any PC guide that you would need. Thankfully, this part is available directly from Amazon. I'm a PRIME member so the shipping was free on this one. **Q: can this be used to plunge and cut wall tile?** A: what you need is a route bit that cuts tile, no router bits are included. The router does plunge, but because of the size you can't get in tight spots. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better PlungeRouter for the Money *by D***D on October 11, 2026* What a Fantastic Plunge Router, Smooth as a Babies Butt. My old router, a Dewalt, died recently after not many hours of use (but a lot of years). Since I hadn't used the previous one much since I bought it, I was thinking maybe I should get a lower end router. Part of the decision was the tongue and groove bits I just got, and all my other bits, are half inch shank. After looking at some reviews, I decided to bite the bullet and get this one. Part of the decision was that I probably will want to get a router table, and the fixed base can be mounted there and then the motor swapped. Much of the reason is that the adjustment seemed dead simple. My Dewalt took 15 irritating minutes with a micrometer to adjust. I've used the Bosch for around 90 minutes today and couldn't be happier. I was able to adjust it in a minute, using the fixed base, and then used it to run some tests. Once I was satisfied with those, I did around 84 feet worth of tongue cutting. In all that, I didn't have a single problem, operator or equipment. Most likely was the operator. The base is wonderful, easy to place and glides along smoothly. The coarse adjustment in the fixed base is kinda hard to operate, IMHO. At first I thought I might complain about the "lock" trigger being right where I would naturally grab it, leading to it being locked sometimes when I didn't expect it to be. But then I started just locking it at the start of a cut, then clicking out at the end, and I think it gives slightly better control. The other minor complaint is that it seems to eject dust right at my crotch. I came out of that session filthy. ## Frequently Bought Together - BOSCH MRC23EVSK Combination Router 15 Amp 2.3 Horsepower Corded Variable Speed Combination Plunge & Fixed-Base Router Kit with Hard Case - BOSCH RA1054 Deluxe Router Edge Guide with Dust Extraction Hood & Vacuum Hose Adapter - BOSCH RA1181 Benchtop Router Table 27 in. x 18 in.
