Taking a dive into the sewer
This is a strange one. It's obvious quite quickly that Cinema Sewer is not going to be a book for everyone. In fact, it's probably going to be a book for only a certain crowd, those who like either porn movies or really cheesy exploitation (particularly horror) films. I fit into that latter group.A compilation of articles from the magazine of the same name, Cinema Sewer contains a lot of information about porn films, probably more than most people would ever want to know. These are not simply films of guy-and-girl (or guy-and-guy or girl-and-girl) sex: the reader gets reviews of films that deal with all sorts of sadism, masochism and some rather scatological things too. Much of which is illustrated by artist (and principal writer and editor) Robin Bougie (and lots of photos too, though generally not reproduced well). It ain't all porn, however. There are also reviews of other exploitation films, such as the various "Mondo" and "Faces of Death" movies and lots of horror films too, often low-budget movies from the 1960s and 1970s, when exploitation/grindhouse films were at their peak. Beyond reviews, we get some biographies, especially of porn actresses, which make it readily apparent that the life of such actresses are rather sordid. There are also articles about various related material such as a history of the anti-porn movement and whether snuff films exist.I'm not much of a pornography fan, and I think even many who are might be repelled by some of the material in this book. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book overall. Bougie and company have an obvious enthusiasm for this material, an appreciation for the trashy films that carries over to the reader. It will expose the daring reader to some unexplored areas of the cinema world (in particular, the cinema sewer).

I want my Cinema Sewer!
When I bought this book i had no idea what I was getting. Well the book blew my expectations away and left me sick, confused and wanting more. The book is a labour of love and comes across as a personal love letter to us low brow film lovers. This book is an adult book that covers many of the films that fall under the radar, but don't let this book get off of your radar as it is a must have for low brow film lovers. I ordered the first book and then as I worked my way through it realized that I had to have more, so I ordered volumes 2 and 3 in quick fashion and can only say that I am happy with all three purchases. I am now waiting for the volume 4 to be released and then other up coming Robin Bougie books. But the only question I have is what will I do after I have read all the volumes offered. Where will I get my fix for trash cinema that only Cinema sewer offers. Best movie related thrash book I have read in years!

great compilation
I've never heard of Cinema Sewer before, so I was curious about this compilation of the best of 12 out-of-print issues from this underground Canadian 'zine. I was pleasantly surprised. Cinema Sewer focuses mainly on horror, exploitation and "classic" 70's porn rarities, of which I also have a keen interest. In addition to the well written, humorous reviews, there's lots of spectacular artwork on display from Cinema Sewer's founder, Robin Bougie, as well as from his wife Rebecca Dart (a side note: I was happy to find that I'm not the only woman interested in this stuff). An important word of warning: this book is for ADULTS ONLY! Some of the very detailed drawings are EXTREMELY graphic, and the language used is pretty graphic too. If you have a sensitive disposition, and are easily offended, DON'T by this book. However, if your into old 70's porn rarities, exploitation and horror films, and enjoy writing that will make you laugh and art that'll make you gasp, you owe it to yourself to check this book out. Have fun!

Slave To The Grind
This book continues in the handwritten tradition of the first volume. Smut. Guts. Exploitation. Movie reviews. Commentary on films. Interviews with stars and directors. Pornographic drawings. It is all here. What more could anyone want? Of special note is the listing of the greats post apocalyptic films of all time. Oh what fun!

Fun Movie Reviews of Horror, XXX and Odd Films
Robin Bougie goes where most of us fear to go. While most of the movies he reviews are not my cup of tea I love to read his reviews. This man has seen more bad movies than anyone likely should. His reviews have humor and detail. In addition there are interviews with the people making horror, XXX and all other off beat movies that you will find you are unable to stop reading. At times you can't believe that some of these films were able to be distributed. This is adult only stuff.

Interesting, but not a book to read at work...
A friend recommended this book, so I thought I'd give it a look. I intended to take it to work with me to have something to read during slow periods. Well, as soon as I got a look at it, I realized it was not a workplace-friendly book, given the rather explicit illustrations. I also thought it would be a printed book, and was surprised at the comic-book style format. That said, it is an interesting book, a little heavy on the porn as opposed to the cult/horror for my taste, but with some good observations about the film and video rental industries, as well as plenty of no-holds-barred editorial matter. In these days of "political correctness," it is refreshing to read someone who isn't afraid to express his opinions about very politically *incorrect* movies without apology. If you can find a copy at a decent price, it's not a bad addition to your cult/guilty pleasures bookshelf.

Sick, disgusting, and amazing
This book is awesome. Many of the movies detailed are ones I've never heard of, so I immediately had plenty of sick fodder to put on my Must-See list. The illustrations are truly inspired---by giddy perverts, that is! I absolutely love them; as interesting as the writing is, it would not be the same without the dirty pictures. This is a great compilation for fans of porn and twisted, obscure film. If you're looking for something jaw-droppingly dirty, this is the book.

Essential reading for movie nuts
loved it so much , that i immediately bought issue 2 and will be buying the rest as cash becomes available, cos once again, it turns out at about 40 Aussie dollars a volume. The enthusiasm that Robin Bougie has for film is totally infectious, and almost makes me wish i was at least bi-sexual so i could get into all the weird straight porn he writes about. This is totally readable, un-pretentious, often hilarious, and awesomely illustrated by his partner Rebecca (and others..as are some of the reviews). i was glad that i was aware of some of the movies, and own some of them, but realized in many cases his subjects are so obscure and hard to find that Cinema Sewer is as close as I'll ever get to "knowing " them. Like some of the film encyclopedias and books like "Incredibly Strange Films" i now find myself back on Amazon trying to hunt down some of these crazy cinematic dreams.

Pure Filth, informative and funny.
Turns out, it's not all smut, a well written fanzine about what adults like. Not safe for the office. Some of the writing it tiny. It was a fanzine so. Very interesting, I shall perchase more.

Fun book
Fun book, If you have a vague interest in the obscure film industry. Bit rude though so only buy if you aren't a sensitive little soul.

finest filth
although considering myself a connaisseur of the dark corner of cinematology there was about 15 movies in the whole volume i recognized. the author really knows his sleaze and tells of a time where you couldn't just access the www and search for stuff like '50 most disgusting films...etcetc'.why only 3 stars then, you might wonder. here's the key:content: 5*editing: 3*font: -1*while i get the idea of making a sleaze mag look, well, sleazy, it doesn't appear to me why the writing had to be in those comical capital letters, sometimes so small that reading it gave me a migraine like the one the author describes on page 53. heck, even typewriter letters would have been more enjoyable...
