Cinema Sewer Volume 4: The Adults Only Guide to History's Sickest and Sexiest Movies!

This trade paperback is a compilation from what I think is a 'zine about movies. I want to say it's about porn movies and genre fiction exclusively, but it has a wider reach than that. I fully enjoy all the detailed sexy artwork, a prime reason for buying, but the articles are really insightful not just for genre movies and porn, but film art generally. I don't want to oversell that aspect, but it's there. This delivers a lot of value for an entertainment dollar, on several levels. Recommended.

Cinema Sewer is a phenomenal series. I've learned a lot. And as an exploitation junkie, I need to further my education. Some films were familiar to me like Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS, but many more were strange. CS is more than just movie reviews with amusing and/or fascinating anecdotes. It has personal essays, trivia, and wild rated-X illustrations. If you love the first three volumes, then I highly recommend the fourth installment.Robin Bougie does the hard work of sifting through the sewer so we don't have to get our hands dirty... until a real gem appears. Robin Bougie's ongoing Cinema Sewer is the epitome of 'labor of love'. This manically laid out and illustrated guide takes you on an almost stream-of-consciousness tour through all sorts of nooks and crannies of exploitation cinema. Grindhouse roughies, action flicks, kung-fu movies, '70s and '80s porn, spine-shredding horror -- all this and much, much, much more are addressed in Bougie's hilarious yet incredibly well-versed style. Random memories, lists, and anecdotes sit along side more traditional write-ups and overviews of different films, film series', genres, trends, etc. Indispensible for true cinephiles!

As with the other books in the series, the pics are original cartoons mixed in with photos and ad art. As with the zine version, there is an emphasis om XXX movies but there are other genres covered. Here is a sample of the contents : Hannie Caulder (1971), Brian DePalma, Sunny Lane, Ted Bundy, The Satan Killer (1993), Seka, Hi-Riders (1978), Shanghai Joe (1973) aka The Dragon Strikes Back, a now outdated article on 17 lost exploitation movies ( a few of these have been found), Sonan, The Iron Master (1983), Commander (1988) Final Mission (1984), The Mini-Skirt Mob (1968), Don't Deliver Us from Evil (1971), The Return of Ringo (1965), Abduction (1975), Silk (1986), X : Night of Vengeance (2011), Scream for Vengeance (1980), Brazilian exploitation movies, copycats of the 1979 movie Alien, Kandi Barbour, Devil's Due (1973), 1970s blaxploitation movies, Street Gangs of Hong Kong (1973), Door to Door Maniac (1961), Jamie Summers, pre-code Hollywood actresses, a 3-D XXX flick and much, much more. I could list more movie titles but some of the ones for XXX and softcore flicks I am not sure that I am allowed to repeat. If you are a fan of esoteric cinema and/or XXX movies, this is a book worth getting

Like all volumes in this series #4 is fantastic. Not for the timid, but if you love the shallow and murky end of all things this is your best bet. Don't expect only film, but cultural excesses as well. Relax and enjoy.

This is the best movie zine out there period. There are four volumes total, and they're *all* hilarious. I never knew most of these movies existed! Note the word ADULT in the title. Anyway, you will never regret this purchase. I sure don't!

Came just as advertise, great story for the ones that love the genre

I've gotten rapidly addicted to Robin Bougie's fun and fact-filled series of compendiums of sinema smut. Having devoured the first 3 book formatted collections of his funky hand-drawn (and lettered!) expositions on exploitation I was pretty pleased to see yet a fourth volume released upon the world. It should go-eth without saying that I'm a fan of the genre so I'm 'open' to the outrageous style of "Cinema Sewer" - providing, as it does, a blend of amusing and informative writing with X-rated illos that shed light upon the grimy underside of the world of film. I particularly appreciate that Cinema Sewer covers a wide range of periods and styles of exploitation film ranging from classic Hollywood film noir to the most esoteric Japanese gonzo porn - and pretty much everything in between.Bougie's approach to it all, and especially the XXX end of things is refreshingly unapologetic - in fact he's a crusader for a more liberal mind set when it comes to porn and sex in general and some of his editorial 'rants' take aim at the stultifying forces for 'decency' in the world. But, mostly the written & illustrated content celebrates the (s)exploitation genre and each issue is literally packed with insightful film reviews, biographical sketches of porn performers, random factoids, reproductions of classic promo art, and also original X-rated drawings & comix produced by Bougie himself and a legion of his bent, like minded, friends.Robin apparently does a pile of research on his beloved subject matter and the various articles are full of interesting inside info that is presented in an amusingly irreverent writing style. The Cinema Sewer has helped me (much to my bank accounts detriment) to discover and purchase many exploitation gems that I, otherwise, might have remained blissfully unaware of. As one might imagine from the subject matter covered, 'Cinema Sewer' is definitely an 'adults only' product - but if you ARE an adult and love the weirder side of film, this series of books is pure gold.Comment

The previous reviewer really shouldn't have given this book only one star if it wasn't for himself and the person who the book was for liked it!Cinema Sewer Volume 4 is another excellent addition to the collection, excellent reviews given for rare and downright unusual/grotesque/sick/sexy/sleazy movies that I've enjoyed for many years!If you buy one volume of these books and it's to your taste, then believe me, you'll want to add the others to your collection and you'd be right to do so.I love the art work too! Robin Bougie, you are awesome.10/10 from me.

book 4 collects even more o rb's magazine and believe me if the subject matter was say disney or other wholesome fare this guy would be famous, as it stands you either like or loathe what the guy does, i'm a definite fan of the genres, who else would write about porn stars what they did and what there doing now which is always interesting, i hope cinema sewer keeps going and dosent run out of steam, and i'd like to say robin is very approachable and always replys to emails. top guy top book.
