The Last King of Angkor Wat

I've heard that even Graeme Base gets a lot of his ideas by traveling.This fictional story takes place in the actual remains of Angkor Wat where a tiger, a gibbon, a water buffalo, and a gecko each claim they could have been one of the great kings. They're soon challenged to reach a temple at the top of by a mysterious elephant (Notice how he never said it was a race.)The book itself is filled with great visuals, (like how even the makings on the elephant's trunk can be seen on the other tests for each adventure).There's also a great game hidden within the story too: each picture has a hidden butterfly.

I like the way the books in this series are written.

A wonderfully illustrated book that is short but great lesson. My 7 year old son loves it. Arrived a bit damaged (cover sleeve) but the book itself is in great condition.

I bought this book because my grown son went to Angkor Wat this year and Graeme Base is the writer/illustrator of several of our favorite books that we read aloud when my children were young (Animalia, The Seahorse Café). These were staples in our house. The stories were always enticing and the illustrations beautiful! Angor Wat definitely has beautiful illustrations but the story is not quite as solid as some of his other books, but still a treasure!

Graeme Base will forever be a favorite of mine. This book doesn't disappoint. Beautiful artwork combined with a story children will love. The adults will appreciate the deeper meaning of things, as always, I'm sure.

I am a great fan of Graeme Base and his lovely books. His artistic ability is out of this world. I would recommend his books for book lovers of ALL ages.

I love Base's illustrations, as there is so much more to them if you spend the time to look carefully at them.
