Thanks in advance!** A: The case is plastic. Your laptop hard drive that you put into the plastic case is aluminum. The plastic case come with a USB cord to plug into another computer to access any stored files on the hard drive that you insert into the plastic case. The hard drive that you insert into the plastic case will also serve as an external hard drive. On the plastic case there is an on and off switch and a blue light that illuminates when turned on. VERY IMPORTANT: before you unplug it from your computer you must click on the icon and eject the device. You have to do that process with anything you plug into a computer. If you do not eject any device plugged into a computer you run the risk of erasing what is plugged into the computer. Looks like a fancy product regardless of its price. The USB cable is thick and robust and it's length is more than satisfactory. The hard drive fits perfectly once installed and keeps it tight in the case making. It a perfect fit. Make sure your hard drive matches its size. It comes with an on/off switch and the blue led indicator light works perfectly. It is very easy to open and close with it's toolless clip system. People complain about it breaking easily but if you know how to handle a hard drive you'll know how not to break it. Just be gentle. Taking the hard drive out might be the most difficult step but if you're delicate you'll be able to pull it out. I was hesitant about the plastic material but I'm surprisingly satisfied.
