Compliments The Diary of Anne Frank
This book is a great addition to The Diary of Anne Frank. The book begins before the diary would start with photographs of Anne and her family and details about their life together. These photographs really help to know more about Anne's life besides the details that she provides in her own diary. In addition to Anne's life, the book also discusses other members who lived in the Secret Annex, their photographs, and what happened to them. There is a diagram of the Secret Annex that helps put the living situation into perspective.I have taught the Holocaust in a high school classroom and have found this book to be a great visual for adolescent learners, but it is also appropriate for younger readers as well as a more introductory look at the Holocaust. It is definitely a valuable resource whether you are teaching the Holocaust in a classroom or simply reading The Diary of Anne Frank on your own or with your children.

WAKE UP!
As a WWll history buff, I enjoy true stories. When I first read her diary, my interest piqued. This photographic edition is electric. People who are either unaware or voluntarily ignorant of what transpired during this war and successive wars are cheating themselves of documented history. They are so busy with their "electronic" life, they have no time to research why they are free!

Anne Frank: Beyond the Diary
This was a very good book. It had lots of pictures and maps of her life and what she saw. I haven't read Anne Franks diary since in grade school and wanted to reread the story. This is very important book and look in the life of a girl who went through such a horrific time. I bought this for my children to someday read.

Not for elementary school kids
The photos in the "kids" book are not for elementary school children. The book is quality all the way, but not for young kids. Middle school is fine.

A Must
Anne Frank : Beyond The Diary is the perfect companion to The Diary Of A Young Girl (Anne Frank) and Anne Frank Remembered (Miep Gies).Although the text is clearly aimed at the younger reader, it would be a great shame if the book was overlooked by adults. It provides additional information about the lives of the Frank family before they emigrated to the Netherlands and also what happened after their arrest.Where the book really excels, however, is in the plethora of photographs, illustrations and maps, and this really helps to bring the whole story to life. There are numerous photographs from the Frank family album, and I thought it was particularly poignant to see Anne and Margot playing with their friends in Germany before they emigrated. Although the rooms in the secret annex are now empty, the book does contain photographs taken when they were temporarily furnished under the direction of Otto Frank and Miep Gies to resemble their appearance at the time they were in hiding. There are photographs of several pages from the original diary and also one of the menu that Anne typed out on 18th July 1942.There is an excellent colour illustration presenting a cutaway view of the secret annex showing the location of the different rooms together with a multitude of other fascinating images. The thing that particularly impresses about this book is in the extremely appealing design and layout.Whether a serious scholar, someone with a passing interest, or a younger person relatively new to the story, the book is a treasure trove that will contain something for everyone.Highly recommended.P.S. Please do not be put off by the "look inside" facility. It really doesn't do the book justice, especicially considering the photographs have all been removed for copyright reasons.
