My ten-year-old son wants to build a coin collection, so I used this as a great way to "seed" his set. The first thing I realized as we spread these out on the living room floor is that five pounds of coins is a LOT of coins! We set out to sort them by country to start, and at two-thirds of the way through the bag we've already identified over 50 countries. The coins seem to range from about 1970 all the way up to at least 2009 - I'd say it's a good mix between those ranges. What makes it interesting to me (and to try to explain to my son) is that it contains many currencies (Francs, Lire) and countries (Czechoslovakia) that don't exist or aren't used any longer. I was also happy to see at least one Euro cents-based coin in there, since that's a good talking point for a ten-year-old when discussing currencies. Are there duplicate coins? Sure, but that's to be expected and it's perfectly fine. We have a lot so far from Mexico and from England, and there are a few other countries with some coins appearing many times, but we also have some from (to me) more obscure places such as Romania, Czechoslovakia, Thailand, Guyana, and several others from countries using the Arabic writing system that I've yet to sit down and identify. You're probably not likely to get one-of-a-kind or super-valuable coins out of this, but as an introduction to the world's currency and as a great way to get a pretty wide variety of coins at one time, I'd say this is a fantastic buy.

I'm new to coin collecting - given that, this is a fun assortment with some treasures like a WWII-era Japanese coin. The majority were newer, in the '90's or later. I charted my finds and listed the oldest date for each country - the average was 1989. Euro coins were heavily represented, as well as English pennies. Because they're money, I washed them first but still had the typical expected grunge on my fingers after going through them. The box of 10 small bags contained coins from 76 countries, ranging from Argentina to Vietnam and many points in between. 641 coins total, 221 unique coins, so many duplicates. Depending on your use for them, this could be a feature or a drawback. I found it a worthwhile purchase for the fun I had going through and figuring them out. Wonderful collection from a bunch of different places. Very happy with my collection!

I was excited to receive this set, hoping for a good variety of coins to add to my collection. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with what I got. There were way too many duplicates—one particular coin from Japan repeated more than 20 times, some coins appeared 4 or 5 times, and several types were repeated across the entire set. I understand that some repetition is regular, but this was excessive. If you want to start a diverse coin collection, this is not the set for you. It feels more like a bulk filler than a curated collection. The description was misleading, as it implied more variety than was delivered. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this to serious collectors. It might be fine for crafts or educational use, but if you're looking for unique or historic coins, you'd be better off buying individual pieces or from a specialized seller.

I have just begun a World Coin collection, ordered several hundred coins to start, and placed them in 17 albums (15 pages each). I purchased two 5-pound bags from this seller and was absolutely delighted. I'm certain each bag was more than 5 pounds (judging from the generous number of coins). All of the coins were identifiable and most in pretty good condition for being circulated. There was a good number of the oversized coins in each bag. I was afraid I would end up with a lot of duplicates from my previous purchases, but instead, discovered harder to find coins from places like Palestine and French Polynesia. This seller has my highest personal recommendation!!

I must say that I was happy with the large collection from different countries. I even got from Russia, South Africa, Zambia and Poland- just to name a few. I did not mind getting several coins from the same country but of different years. Having 10 of the same year from the same country is really overkill. I was not able to use those coins to teach matching historical events/political events in those countries as planned. Otherwise it was fun to have the kids look for coins that had similar markings and those that had animals and birds on them.
