I was shooting a bolt action .22 caliber rifle with a scope at that age... With adult supervision. By 12 years old, I was shooting a 12 Gauge shotgun without supervision. Train and trust your kids. They will become better adults. **Q: can it kill small animals** A: YES! I got a fat rat killed with a single shot from a 20 or 24 feet distance. This was the reason I bought and it did not disappointed me. I am sure it will kill other animals like birds, rabbits and squirrels. Check your local laws. I hope you don't intend to kill any small animals with this. (except pest like rats). Contrary to the other 2 comments. I bought this slingshot and never had a chance to try it until I got the opportunity to hit that rat and only took me 2 shots to hit it (first shot missed by inches, second shot hit the target). I must mention that I have no "skills" and those 2 shots were the first 2 shoots I took since I was 11 years old! so, 25 years have passed since I used one until that time. I don't know what is the other reviewer talking about when he says you need some degree of skills and have own at least 4 of these and practice over the years and change bands etc, etc. As you can see, this is a simple tool that anyone can use. No skill required. Just need to be careful as this small tool is dangerous if you hit a person by accident. **Q: Would this work with paintballs? If so is there a specific type/size you'd recommend?** A: I use it to launch small tennis balls for my small Dog. I am fairly certain it would work for paintballs, but if you have a choice in size get the smallest paintballs possible. **Q: what kind of ammo should I use with this slingshot? So fun! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comes with a correctable flaw! *by H***2 on July 24, 2023* One thing to be aware of with the Daisy F16 slingshot is the likely hood of a sharp metal burr on one or both tips of the metal rod where the band slides on. I have 3 and all came with a sharp burr that cut into the rubber band causing it to break prematurely. It's a quality control issue that Daisy is not likely to correct because it will require an extra manufacturing step that will add a few cents to the cost! So the solution is for you to file or sand off any sharp burrs before slipping on a band. The slingshot itself is sturdy, but the bands are nothing special.
