I am dressing a stunning loch side property to be a 5 star luxury let in Scottish highlands and stumbled on this Jaques of London Chess set. Having invested too much into this property already I have become very price driven and conscious in the final bits needed so studied several options over a cuppa. An ex product developer /importer I have a keen eye for quality and price. This set jumped out as it looked leagues ahead of others in finish , small detail and presentation yet was priced to compete with others being offered. Genuinely I thought too goo to be true must be well dressed photography......but I took the punt and bought it and a Tumble Tower wooden brick set. Arrived today and I am genuinely gob smacked just how good this set is in every way. The quality is stunning, the finish immaculate. I know all too well just how difficult it is to achieve and maintain highest of standards in consumer products but this company clearly have their parameters set super tight. Even in the small details of gold logo on board it is a perfect product. I only paid around £29 for this but it looks and feels like a £150 set. The packaging is a massive understatement in what we expect but actually subliminally sets a tone of refined quality gift. Printed bow with company name and then beautiful printed paper inside really set this off. Generally I do not write these reviews , just too busy and lets face it none of us stand outside Waitrose telling others how good our steak was last night so why do it on Amazon.....if a company provides good product at affordable price it will succeed ....simple. However left so impressed with this set and the Tumble Tower it would be an injustice not to compliment both products and commend the company for their most obvious efforts while remaining very competitive against all others. If you take time to read this I do hope you also "take the punt" as I did as confident you will feel equally delighted on recipt. Well done Jaques of London.

Great quality! I bought this as a present as I wanted a solid wooden chess board. I am so glad I did. Its extremely portable so it can be easy packed up and taken to friends.

Good quality

Very nice chess set for the price. I was looking for a chess set that I could take around with me so that I could play with others, however, having no plans for playing chess whilst traveling, I didn't need a magnetic set. Upon arrival, the set was beautifully wrapped. Inside each piece was in place and, most importantly for me, it was ready to travel with me out of the box. On inspection there were a few imperfections in the board. One of the pawns also had a noticeable indentation in the top. None of this inhibits playing of the game, but I imagine it would bother some people. Overall, a fantastic chess set which has eased my reintroduction to the game after many years.

Received my set in good time. The craftsmanship for £32 was a lot better than what I was expecting; all the pieces and board look nice, the board was alined with a little (barely noticeable) warping. After reading through some of the reviews I had a little trepidation, especially seeing some of the images of pieces damaged. But, as far as the set I received goes, it was all in good order and of a very good quality. This was my first physical chess set, thinking about getting a more ornamental set as a Christmas gift. I can definitely see this set as being the one I'd take away with me / have for general use.

Very elegant looking chess board I am very pleased with how it was packaged and presented even with a little note from penelope saying she hand packed the board. It also comes with a booklet with the basics of chess. Thank you for the effort that was put in.

Excellent quality

Looks good but feels cheap, to light for my liking. So light that feels almost plasticky. Few bits are standing uneven, doesn't feel like high quality.

Très beau jeu d'échecs ,offert à mon mari qui a beaucoup apprécié à la fois la dimension 37x37 cm ,les différentes pièces bien faites et le fait qu'ii se plie avec le rangement des pièces . Rapport qualité / prix très correcte. Bien emballé avec délicatesse et livré rapidement. Je le recommande.

Es el segundo ajedrez que pido. El Primero lo cambié por tener un golpe en una casilla del tablero y estar marcado por un par de sitios como si hubiesen arrastrado algo. Él segundo ha llegado hoy con varias taras en el barniz,impurezas en un par de casillas y con un par de manchas en el tablero. Además tenía piezas sueltas como si hubiese sido utilizado aunque venía embalado con su plástico. Por dentro, el forro donde están las piezas, también deja que desear, mal encolado. Las piezas pesan poco, son pequeñas respecto a la casilla y además tienen desperfectos. Las casillas no cuadran bien del todo. Compré el ajedrez confiando en el respaldo de la marca y los años que le avalan pero la verdad es que me ha decepcionado un poco en este aspecto. El ajedrez es bonito, está bien presentado, hecho a mano y por el precio estaría bien si no tuviera está taras y las piezas tuviesen mas plomada. Fue un regalo de Reyes para mi hija y estoy pensando en devolverlo y optar por otra marca pero no sé cómo se lo tomaría mi hija de 5 años al ver que el ajedrez de los Reyes no es el mismo modelo. Además deberían tener más opción en los productos. No se puede pasar de un ajedrez de 35€ a una fichas sin tablero por 150€ aproximadamente. Si hubiese habido algo con un precio intermedio, piezas más grandes (nº5 o nº6) y mejor acabado lo habría comprado pero no hay en su web. Una lastima que una marca con tanto prestigio y que patentó el formato de las piezas tenga estos fallos y no revise los productos antes de ser embalados. Actualizo: después de cambiarlo un par de veces escribí a la marca y ellos mismos se encargaron de hacer el cambio. Todo correcto!!

Dieses Schachspiel hat mich wirklich überzeugt! Das Schachbrett ist sauber verarbeitet, die Figuren sind stabil, gut ausbalanciert und liegen angenehm in der Hand. Sowohl zum Lernen als auch für anspruchsvollere Partien perfekt geeignet. Schlichte, klassische Optik – genau so, wie man es sich wünscht. Klare Kaufempfehlung!

Ich wollte die "hardware" zum Schachspielen und genau die habe ich bekommen. Toll designt und verpackt, ein echter Hingucker. Hat mir sehr gefallen. Schöner Karton (mit Schleife), Das Schachspiel (sehr schön gearbeitet) kommt als Faltset und hat die Figuren im Inneren, gleich auch noch zur Aufbewahrung. Daher ist das Schachspiel aufgebaut etwa 2,5 cm hoch. Es liegt auch eine englische Spielanleitung bei, aber auch hier gleich der Hinweis: Wer es lernen möchte muss auf jeden Fall noch mehr Anleitung dazukaufen. Aber zum Spielen, top. Alle Figuren haben eine Filzunterlage. also: Ich bin mit dem Kauf sehr zufrieden. Zu den anderen Fragen aus der Bewertung: Ja, klare Empfehlung für ein Geschenk. Für unterwegs, klar. Aber unterwegs kann vieles sein. Zum in den Koffer schmeißen ist es dann vielleicht doch zu schade.
