Relevent today even though it was published 22 years ago. Excellent read especially for Marathon-ers and Tri-Athletes.
I have been in the gym for 24 years, played Division 1 football, trained with NFL athletes, but never really took a close look at science-backed research published in journals. I devoted most of my reading to the headlines of today regarding what is popular and trendy in terms of nutrition and supplementation. Now, at 38, I am preparing to enter my first bodybuilding competition in the fall. My friend recommended this book as part of my natural preparation. His statement to me was that back in 1993, this book was years ahead of its time...and it still is today. Nothing will replace hard work, eating clean, and consistency. However, this book is loaded with research based conclusions regarding almost everything that is still relevant in 2015 and will show you how to maximize your potential naturally. I don't particularly enjoy reading, but I burned through these 472 pages in less than a week. BTW, I bought mine used and the book was in perfect condition.

Bible of Nutrition - Head and shoulders above the rest!
This is hands down the best nutrition book ever written. This should be read before reading "Wheat Belly", "Grain Brain", or any paleo diet book, or any other sports nutrition book out there (Nancy Clark, etc.). Colgan's research, although geared toward athletes, can easily be synthesized for anyone's needs, and his results-proven research is 2nd to none. Yes, it was written in 1993, but that just means that there is more supplementation research to add to what Colgan has written. The information still stands solidly in 2015.

The nutrition book to have!
This book is packed with in depth information about nutrition. Dr. Colgan's book is incredible! He's also waaaay ahead of the times. I bought this book as a replacement for a copy that I misplaced. There are concepts in this book, originally copywrited in the 90's, that people are only coming around on recently.

A goldmine of nutrition facts
I misplaced my copy of this book when I moved overseas 20 years ago.. I am so glad to receive a replacement. The book is full of practical, research based information on nutritional supplements. The title is a bit misleading, though. This book is not only for the sports enthusiast. It contains nutrition information for anyone seeking an easy to read reference text on some of the most popular supplements.Dr. L. James

Best Sports Nutrition Book Ever Written!
Dr. Michael Colgan is a man way ahead of his time. While this book may seem old in comparison to some of the other nutrition books out there it is still as relevant today as it was when it was published. Dr. Colgan builds health from a foundation of good nutrition and supplying what the body actually needs to perform at its best. Get your basics covered before you dive into any "exotic" or "new" supplements that promise better performance. I love this book
Sound advice. It might be old, but it should be every athlete's bible. This guy is incredibly reliable. I love this book. I have countless books from "diet gurus" but this one is better. And oh, it's written by a doctor. He has dedicated many years to real research and shared the knowledge here.

Great book. Very comprehensive. Some aspects are outdated however I would recommend buying never the less. Very ahead of its time

The Sports Bible
This is a hard book to find because it was printed in 1993. I became aware of this book in 2000 and back then it was known as the Sports Bible.I used to borrow this book off a friend and take notes from it which I have to this day.This is the book if you want to take your training to another level.

Optimum Sports Nutrition by Michael Colgan
I bought this book as a gift for my eldest son who is into fitness and nutrition. He tells me that this book contains all the detailed nutritional information an athlete requires to live a fit and healthy life. It is packed full of valuable information on fitness,nutrition and exercise explained in precise and understandable detail throughout the book. This book is a valuable source book for the athlete.

Sport Nutrition
Great read for anyone wanting an in depth view of Sports Nutrition. Very detailed information, i would say a bit to much for the avaerage person. I found myself a bit punch drunk with data. If you already have a basic understand of food and diets then this is a great book to add, if you are looking for a simple way to improve you diet then maybe leave this one for now?
