Excellent material for teaching history
The Complete book of United States History has been an excellent resource in our Homeschool. I have used it 2 years in a row along with other grade appropriate materials, though others are not really needed. This book covers a lot of important historical events and is set up like a regular school issued text book. I plan on using it AGAIN this year and repetition works well in helping my child retain knowledge.

I love these books.
Again, I just love these books. What a great way for a kid to learn. They read a little, get to right in their own book, not have to carry around pages their writing on that they will eventually lose. Really, the public school system should use these and they're probably cheaper than the books they buy. Also, one nice feature, they put everything in a timeline where it lists the different units they will be studying and it really helps kids to understand what order things happened in.

Better than most but still needs a little work.
What I liked about this book is that it goes into areas that most US History books ignore or gloss over. What I understand about this book is that it must have a limited number of pages, and because of that it never really goes into detail about any period or event. Most periods or events are covered in 2 pages or less. It also requires a parent or educator to explain things. I say that because it breaks the Civil War or Revolutionary War, etc. into small bits and pieces. It may focus on a bill and then a battle, but never gives an overall synopsis of the event to tie it all together. The bite sized nuggets are great for maintaining interest among teens and hitting on oft ignored topics, but a summary or overview is still required. My child left this book knowing lots of neat facts, but unable to give summaries of the events leading up to, during or after key historical events in our history.

3rd grader loving it.
I purchased this to use for my 3rd grade daughter this year. She is on the Sept birthday so she could be a 4th... but anyways - this is a GREAT history book! I am actually learning from it! I think the price is excellent and the information is great in this book! I was not sure what I was getting but would definately recommend this to others. The lessons are a nice length and she stays focused. It is not "over her head".Good value and good book.

Good book, not so good seller!
The book itself is a good book. I would recommend it for 2nd - 5th grade. The language is very easy, some of the "Show what you know" activities are a little too simple, but this book is mainly a text book, not a work book. As homeschoolers we use it as a trace to follow, but we fill in the gaps with other, more complete history books.HOWEVER!! I bought this book from Jenson books Inc. "The description was Condition: Used - Very Good - A well-cared-for item that has seen limited use but remains in great condition. The item is complete, unmarked, and undamaged, but may show some limited signs of wear. Item works perfectly. Pages and dust cover are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine is undamaged."However, entire chapters are missing! (pg 120-133 Eli Whitney's Cotton gin, Lewis and Clarke Explore the Louisiana Purchase, Boats on the Mississippi), (168-185, the ENTIRE Civil war!), (189-199 Battle of Gettysburg, Abraham Lincoln The Man).Since we are working on the book, I asked the seller if he can replace it with a complete copy. Once received the complete copy I can return the incomplete copy. I am waiting for a reply.

fantastic paperback text!
This paperback text (grades 3 - 5) more than met my expectations and need. As a homeschool teacher I'm always searching for the best texts that will teach, entertain, and keep the student's interest. This book does it with beautiful pictures and well-written, informative text. Any information that is dated is easy to discuss with my students. I highly recommend this book to any teacher or anyone interested in American history.

Great book for homeschool
I use this book to help teach my 2nd grader about our history. It's simple for your child to read. There are small activities to do at the end of the section but not filled with questions that they wouldn't be able to do on there own.

Very good book
This book is fantastic. I got it for my 9yo (3rd grade, homeschooled) and I wasn't expecting much honestly because most history books for elementary are just god awful. BUt this one is nice, lots f illustrations, good info, and she loves reading it. I recommend this to any kiddo who needs a history book
