Is the fabric white on all sides or is there a side that is black on the outside and silver on the inside?

whats the difference between this, a regular snap on diffuser, and a small softbox?

I got this and a flash mounted softbox. This is SO much easier to use. The softbox is always a struggle to keep in on unless you are going to permanently put velcro on your flash. this also folds up and stores really small. Takes up no space in the camera bag. I also own a snap on diffuser. I have not done shot comparisons yet, but this one takes up less space than the snap on, so I have a feeling it is going to get more use.

Does this reduce the appearance of the flash to the person in the picture? I want to take pictures of my baby without scaring her with a bright flash.

If the flash that came with your camera has a bounce head that goes up to 90 degrees, take a 3X5 white paper note card trim out the two ends and leave a tab in the center the size of the flash head. hold it in place with a sturdy rubber band. You can bend the card forward in a 30~45 degree angle to bounce the light to your subject. This gives a large, diffused light on your subject softening it tremendously. Will this fit the godox 685 camera flash? the rectangular flash head measures 3"w (7.6cm) x 2"h (5cm).

Yes, the item has an elastic collar that allows for most rectangular heads to accept and your measurements will work easily. I took mine out of the bag and checked it with a ruler.
