Seems to work fine. I am not a fiber expert, which is why I got this. It read find on the cable I tested. But have not tested on broken, etc, to see how well it does, or how informative it might be

Catches ambient light due to design causing unreliable readings

This tool is a solid piece of equipment for anyone working with fiber and copper networks. I tested it on my fiber optic cable signal and got clear, stable readings right away. The ability to cycle through multiple wavelengths is a definite plus, and the numbers were consistent. The visual fault locator (VFL) is a standout feature - simple to trace the fiber and check for any potential issues. I also appreciate the 2-in-1 functionality. Having the optical power meter and VFL in one unit is convenient, but adding the RJ45 tester makes it a true all-in-one device. It worked as expected, confirming the connection pin by pin with the remote piece. The included adapters for FC, SC, and ST connectors meant I didn't have to hunt for parts. The device itself sits very comfortably in hand with rubbery touch. The buttons are straightforward, and the screen is easy and big to read. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, and it does it well.

In my testing it worked great. I was able to test many ethnernet cables with the R45 port. All my cables tested fine. I used the other part to test some fiber cables and again no issues because my cables don't have faults. Overall it's easy to use and has quite a lot of features. It's great versus having to carry a separate tool for fiber cable.

This doesn't rank with my Fluke, but for something quick and simple this will do both your fiber and ethernet cables. I was very surprised how nice this little meter was once I started playing around with it. The combination of fiber and ethernet in a small pocket sized meter is great. The power test mode is also a nice feature in this small package. You have eight different wave lengths that you can select. RJ45 testing is also available on this device. Not your typical test, but is still will test and show you good or bad. It also has a power jack if needed, next to the RJ45. A nice addition that I discovered was the flash light (LED) option, giving you some light when needed. It's not extremely bright, but it is light. The two things that I would have liked to have with this unit would be a carrying case and a second loop for the RJ45 network test remote module.

For the price, this little gadget does the job for basic fiber optic testing. It's not a professional-grade meter that a big company would use for super precise work, but if you're a hobbyist or just need to check if a signal is present and roughly how strong it is, it's perfect. The main thing is that it's simple to use and gets you a good-enough reading without any hassle. Just don't expect it to be as accurate as a thousand-dollar unit, and you'll be happy with it.
