Neat! This might be the start of a new hobby!
I am reviewing inbloom large oyster mushroom growing kit, which at the time of this review was $19.99. This was a fun little kit, though I didn't get nearly as many mushrooms as I would have expected. It took a little longer to see my first shrooms, but once they started coming it they grew quite quickly! I tasted them raw and they were terrible, but after cooking them the smelled and tasted excellent! A surprisingly 'meaty' smell, flavor and texture. Not sure I've had oyster mushrooms before, but definitely something I want to grow more of! I will say the little spray bottle you get is pretty puny, so I used a bigger one I had laying around. Also, I wish they had a better container to hold in humidity so you didn't have to spray it so frequently. I'd recommend keeping it in your kitchen so it's something you see a few times a day so you don't forget about it. The package indicates you can switch from one side to the other for a second growth, but unfortunately after switching sides I haven't seen any signs of growth so I think it might be done for. However, I did go down the mycelium rabbit hole and it looks like I may be able to take some of the 'roots' from this container and inoculate new straw matter and get a new batch in a different bag, so I'm going to try that. Overall for $20 a fun little experiment and a nice gateway into a new hobby.

Great starter kit for the Beginner
Solid starter kit and Oyster MR's are super forgiving and tenacious. For beginners - once you fruit these a few times (yes, you can get a 2nd flush if you re-soak) - check the corrugated portion of the cardboard. You'll notice the mycelium have started to colonize the box....from there, you can extend your grow if you transition to substrate and restart the process. For me, the colonized box wa a BONUS after 2 flushes. Great starter kit either way.

Fun Project for Beginners and a Unique Gift Idea
This is one of those products that's as much about the experience as the end result. Whether you're interested in growing mushrooms regularly or just want to try something new, this kit makes the process approachable for beginners. Everything you need to get started is included, and the instructions are easy to follow. I think this would make a particularly fun gift for gardeners, foodies, homeschool families, or anyone who enjoys hands-on projects. There's something satisfying about checking on the mushrooms each day and watching them develop. A couple of practical notes: you'll probably want to place the kit on a tray or plate because regular misting can make the cardboard box damp over time. The included spray bottle gets the job done, but if you already have a larger mister on hand, you may find it more convenient. Like any gardening project, results will depend on your environment and how closely the growing conditions match what the mushrooms prefer. Some people seem to get impressive harvests while others have less success. Still, for the price, it's an interesting experiment and a fun way to learn about mushroom cultivation. Overall, I think this is a unique and enjoyable kit that makes mushroom growing accessible, even for someone with no prior experience.

Easy and delicious
If you want to try growing mushrooms whether you're a novice or experienced, you can't go wrong with a kit like this. Follow the directions carefully to get started, and you will have mushrooms to harvest in no time! I got this kit on a Monday, it sat in a warm humid room until I finally opened it, cut the plastic, very lightly forked the surface and soaked it overnight on Friday evening. The "log" looked quite colonized and ready to go when I opened it. Every day once or twice a day I used a small watering can instead of spray bottle to drench the medium with, pouring water into one open side and then the other. I ended up removing the "log" from the box because the box got soaked and was falling apart. At the top of the "log" looked like some foam that maybe went down into the medium, but I poured some water in that, too and it seemed to gradually soak in. The room they were in was 70s to 80s and at least 50% humidity or more. By the following Friday, I had mushrooms to harvest! Once they started pinning by Monday/Tuesday, the mushrooms grew fast! It was a good sized harvest, too. The flush was larger on one side than the other. I soaked the kit overnight again a day or two after the first harvest, and by the next Friday I had a second flush of mushrooms! Not as large, but there were half a dozen flushes, three on each side. While I sauteed and ate some of the mushrooms, I dehydrated the bulk of them so that I could rehydrate and use later in cooking and soups. They were delicious and buttery tasting, tender but slight mushroom "crunch". I don't know if I will get a third flush. I may break up and spread the remains of this kit into some fresh moist hardwood chips or aspen shavings in a shady spot outside somewhere and see if it will get inoculated and grow more of these. You want to harvest these before the caps flatten out. You want to harvest them when the edges are curved downward when you look at them from the side. I show what I mean in one of the pics; you can see how a couple of the caps at the very top flattened out, but the rest have the edges curved down. While you can still harvest them after they've started cracking or spored, they are still tasty, but better to harvest a little early than too late for best quality. The amount of mushrooms this kit produced, and having the bulk of them dehydrated, they should last many months. I think the price of this kit is fair considering what it is capable of producing for you. I look forward to trying more of these kits of different mushroom varieties. I highly recommend!
