I did cut one in half, whatever material it's made of is solid, not plated, so I guess we'll see if they rust. The rods are just shy of 1/8” or 2.97mm which is within an acceptable tolerance for the specifications made in the product description. The finish of each rod is flawless and they are all highly polished to a shiny, reflective surface. Each end of the rods has a slight chamfer on it, making it easy to insert into peg board holes if that is your intended purpose. For me, I use these rods for crafting purposes and they are very easily cut with a hacksaw to get the size you need. I love their smooth surface and the class that they add to craft projects, especially when used in contrast with wood. They are an inexpensive way to add a special element to your crafting. Regardless of how you use them, you will be pleased with he quality.
