On wood, it's hard to get a clean burn
I bought this branding iron to burn wood. So far, the results have been mixed. Some times I get a good clean burn. Other times there are spots that do not burn through. I heat the iron for a couple minutes with a propane torch and can actually see the metal turning hot orange. I put it on the wood and tap it with a rubber mallet to make sure it's on the wood's surface. I have been using it on a soft wood, pine. I would not trust it on a harder wood. Results have been 50-50. For leather, or even a BBQ, it might work fine.

Sturdy material. But the points of the star are all uneven , so it's not symmetrical.
