If God Gave Your Graduation Speech: Unforgettable Words of Wisdom from the One Who Knows Everything About You

Theologically Heretical
This book has some "ok" theological principles, but when we're dealing with the Word of God, just "ok" isn't going to cut it. The book starts off with an Amelia Earhart quotes. Not that there's anything wrong with Amelia Earhart, but that with a book that's supposed to signify God's words for graduates, we're looking for some scripture. In the first section titled "Imagine," Payleitner sets the stage by attempting to assess God with human attributes; stepping up to the podium at your graduation, giving you a thumbs up with one hand and wielding a lightning bolt with the other. He's up there, "...delivering a perfect recipe for a perfect life." Anyone who's read scripture knows that we cannot have a perfect life here on earth because we are not perfect, (Rom 3:10, 23). He goes on to write "Do you picture God wearing a professor's robe and mortarboard? Sure, why not, if that helps you take His words seriously." No, that is not what you do. This is anthropomorphism. We cannot lower to divine image of God, which is one that is supernatural and spiritual. There is so much more I could get into with other questionable quotes in this section, such as, "You are what He cares about the most," and, "Imagine the voice of James Earl Jones, Charlton Heston, or Morgan Freeman if you must," but I think they speak for themselves. I decided to just take a peak at the first page before finally giving up on this book. On it was 1 Corinthians 8:6. But the most horrific part is that I cannot find whatever translation it is anywhere. I looked at every translation I could find, even as far at the message and the passion, and could find the wording nowhere. That's 3 strikes. Please do not buy this book. I'm sure Payleitner meant well, but meaning well is only half the battle when it comes to serious exegesis and the interpretation of scripture.
