If you mean the sandpaper block it's to sharpen and angle the lead in a way the sharpener can not.

Not quite sure but hope this helps it has a HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, 8B, 2H, 3H, 4H, 5H, 6B Graphite soft, 3 charcoal (1 of each soft, med, and hard) 4 pastel pencils (black, sepia, red Brown, and grey) and a bunch of other stiff Idk what they are.
