Pretentious arty nonsense
Content has nothing to do with book title whatsoever, compares Jomon to contemporary 'art' mainly. Pretentious garbage throughout. Deserves minus 5 starts.

A book where form and content are intimately tied to the subject and approach
This is a playful, challenging and unusual book whose form and design mirror the writing and editorial policy. Packed with intriguing ideas, it gave me new insights into the study and conceptualisation of dogu. Its provocative approach is refreshing and deserves to be more widely emulated: if scholarship is about original and fearless thinking, this exemplifies how to do it.

A great book.
This is a thought-provoking book written in a playful style that allows the reader to explore the potential uses and means of ancient figures.
