Vektra Kettle, Series 1 in Black/red, vacuum insulated environmentally eco-friendly kettle, stainless steel finish, 1.7 litre

I didn't think you could get excited about a kettle but this one is great! Had it 2 days, so review so far ..... Its not a rapid boil, but then it doesn't need to be. It really does keep the water hot enough to make tea / coffee for a good few hours (I've not timed it properly) so as soon as I fancy a cup I can make one instantly. Its perfect for me as I tend to put the kettle on, go back to the laptop and do some work then forget I was making a hot drink and have to start the cycle again, but no more, as soon as I remember I was making a coffee the kettle is still hot enough and for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th....(I drink too much coffee) cup there's no waiting for the kettle to boil. All the interior is stainless steel (except the underside of the lid) and no plastic water gauge. When the water is poured it does go through a plastic spout but that is the only time the water is in contact with plastic. I saw another review mention a slow pour, but I've not found that to be the case. I was concerned I may not be able to pour and press the release lever as I've only got small hands but actually its not a problem at all. Unexpected plus side - I've not noticed any steam escape the kettle during the boil so it doesn't matter where I sit the kettle (eg: under wall cupboards) as condensation no longer an issue. Minor downside - the kettle is a little on the heavy side when empty, which isn't a problem for me but may be for others. I was worried when I first got it out of the box but after using it the weight is fine. If I have any problems I'll update the review but so far I'm really happy.

Review after 4 years: excellent product, keeps the water hot for hours, even in an unheated kitchen in winter. I have no hesitation in boiling a full kettle knowing I am not wasting energy. Yes its probably 3p to boil a kettle so the saving is not huge but for me its about not having to wait for the thing to boil between zoom meetings. The 1.2 litre is a bit on the small side maybe 3 or 4 cups and especially when it is not full the angle you have to pour at, the steam hits your hand (would have been 5 stars but for this). The insulated lid means that without removing the lid it does not pour very fast.

Had this for almost 11 months and is used multiple times a day. At 1.2l it holds enough for 4 mugs with reboil time minimal even after a couple of hours. Not sure why there are complaints about it not holding a lot, it's 1.2l, what did you expect? Looks good and easy to fill with max fill bar clearly visible. It has a twist on/off lid which you get used to very quickly as you do with having to depress the pour button on the lid while, well pouring. I've used it that much the Lock and Open indicators are all but gone but not a problem. The reason is said it was almost the best kettle is down to 2 minor issues, not enough not to give it 5 stars, which could be rectified if they ever make a Mk2. 1. The spout design gives an untidy pour which leads to some splashing out the mug when you get near the top. 2. The rubber grommets/screw seals on the top of the kettle body have a tendency to pop out when opening the lid. Easy enough to put back but a bit annoying when they fall into the kettle itself. Would highly recommend, get one.

It works but it has issues. The main problem is that the capping of the handle moves a small amount when you hold it and this traps the power button. The result is that the kettle sometimes does not switch off when boiling - it correctly cuts out but then restarts and it continues to do this until you intervene. UPDATE - after using the kettle for a number of weeks. Thermally, it works well and retains the heat. The handle cover moves around and the whole handle feels flimsy. The on/off switch can get jammed by the handle cover. Given the problems wih the switch, and the kettle's inability to detect that it is boiling when using smaller quantities of water, it is necessary to always manually switch it off

DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE. I've owned a Vektra 1.7 for 3 years and it was a fantastic kettle, keeping the water hot for hours. The switch broke so I ordered a new one. The new one collects steam, in the form of water - lots of water, in the lid. If you open the lid to pour quickly or for re-filling (remember the water stays at near boiling temperature for hours so chances are you may well open it again to top up while water is still hot) near-boiling hot water pours out from under the lid catch on to your hand. Because I think this is a very serious health and safety hazard and also because the previous kettle was so good, I raised this with Grunwerg, whose name appears on the box as manufacturer/supplier. The response I got could not have been less helpful and when, after much prompting, they eventually looked at the video they said: "this is due to how the kettle is being used and has nothing to do with manufacturing". I am appalled by their response: to blame the customer for misuse because I wanted to top up the kettle, to ignore the high probability of someone getting badly scalded and to ignore that I repeatedly said how happy we were with the very same kettle bought 3 years ago which never did this. Terrible customer service and a, previously, great kettle is now unusable. Unfortunately this appears to be the only vacuum kettle available. I've now put a thermos next to the kettle which is a pain but avoids repeated heating of kettle which is what sold the Vektra to me in the first place.

Good kettle but does have some flaws 1st you have limited capacity about 4 decent cups 2 there is a button which lets the water out could be better positioned Takes 4 mins approximately from cold to boil On the heavy side On the plus side uses under half the power of our old kettle approximately 1.3 kW instead of 3kw Once it's boiled you can't boil the kettle until it goes cold enough saving more energy so know one can re boil the kettle Stays warm for quite some time so the water if re boiled takes no time at all No steam at all so no kids getting scalded and kettle was knocked over when hot and full but didn't leak very impressed great if you have kids like me In all a good buy at the discount price fast delivery well thought out product far more positives than negatives worth the money

I really really wanted this kettle to be good because of what it states it can do, unfortunately the reality is that it doesn’t. First of all we boiled 3 kettles worth of water like it says to do before using it properly and what we found was, where the lid had been placed (upside down mind) while filling it, each time there was a substantial puddle of water, so permanently having to mop up water to use the kettle or have water dribble all down your arm and onto what’s underneath your arm if you hold the lid, that wouldn’t have been a deal breaker if it did what it’s supposed to do, it doesn’t keep the water hot, it states that after 2 hours the water will be 80 degrees C, I tried to make a coffee after an hour and the water was tepid at best, I tried it a couple of times but no, I’ve give it 2 stars for the 2 things it is good at, 1. It can boil water relatively quickly. & 2. The outside of the kettle isn’t scalding hot so if you accidentally brush past it you won’t burn yourself, really really disappointed.☹️

Optisch sehr ansprechend und auch nicht so überdimensional. Gute Warmhalteleistung über ca. 4 Stunden. Allerdings braucht er verhältnismäßig lange und ist auch relativ laut, daher ein Punktabzug.

It's a quality product - it's quiet, it's quick and we like it. But there's a but ... there's no window to enable you to see how much water is left in it, and we miss that from our old kettle. Also, we find it awkward to pour water from the kettle. Because it's essentially a thermos that retains the water temperature (good point), it's also differently weighted, so more difficult to pour, and especially so because you have to press the release lever to let the water out. So it takes two hands to pour a cup of tea. It's a quality product, but I don't think we would buy it again.
