Excellent value for the price
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The sound is better than more expensive ones I own. The shortwave is a bonus. It has so many great features, especially in case of loss of power. I highly recommend it.

10 years later.....
I purchased this in 2016. 10 years later, the battery still charges and works fine. The rubber front is a little gummy though. It was my best friend in the 6 hour eyewall of IAN when cell service was out. I was expecting a direct hit, but via radio I found it out turned and hit my friend I lost service texting with in Ft. Myers. I'm looking to gift one for my son when my Purchased 2016 popped up.

Great radio with a lot of features and a few quirks
I've owned one of these radios for several years and use it daily and like it so much I bought another one. It has good sound and feature set for the price. Not all versions come with an AC adaptor for wall power. Make sure the one you buy has it. One of the things that is different with the new version of this radio is the LCD screen is now a cheaper version that can't be viewed from any direction other than directly on. Example: If it is on a table that is a foot or two under your eye line, then you will not be able to read the screen or know what radio station is on without holding the radio and turning it towards you. The older version has a higher quality LCD screen that can be viewed from all angles, but it's still a great little radio. When you are constantly pushing the radio to read the screen be careful the fixed antenna doesn't get bent. On this radio is the first thing that breaks quickly is the antenna. It's a fixed (non-articulating) antena that only goes up and down, not side to side or front/back, so if it falls or you bump into it too hard it's going to bend and break. But it's easy enough to replace it. Would I buy another one, absolutely.

Works as advertised
I got this unit for several reasons: emergency use, of course; camping trips; and plays. Yes, plays. Our favorite theater has ceased having performances indoors, but, instead, they leased an old drive-in theater where they have the play on a stage down front and also project it on the big screen. The old sound boxes are gone, of course, but the theater broadcasts the sound over a local radio frequency. So, my wife and I set up our lawn chairs in front of our car; tuned in the Kaito Voyager Pro KA600; used a Y-jack to plug both our headphones into the headphone jack on the unit; tuned in and pulled out the snacks; and we were good to go. Worked out perfectly. Sound was really good and the built-in light came in handy. So far, we are very satisfied. I noticed that, by using the crank, I can pretty much avoid using batteries at all. Would recommend this unit.

Mixed on this
Hello. I've had this unit for a couple of years now and used it on and off. Thoughts: 1) I had to get a new internal battery as the old one was shot. Had it running for the last couple of days now, even with clouds and the panel facing a window, it's charging and holding its charge. 2) As noted in another review...after a couple of years the rubber part of the case starts to get sticky. Not sure what causes that, but used some "goo gone" to remove it. It sort of worked...it just doesn't look very good. 3) The telescoping antenna. A continuing problem. I had the radio sitting in a window, a gust of wind blew it over onto the floor, breaking the antenna. What I ended up doing was to take the back off the radio, wire nutting the antenna wire to a length of 14 gauge "bell wire" and putting a blade connector on the end. That way, I can connect various lengths of the same wire to better receive SW/LW stations. Using this method (along with appropriate broadcast schedules according to propagation/time of day) , I've been pretty successful in listening to WWV and a few others. I have the clip on reel, just not thrilled with it. 4) FM/WB reception. Acceptable performance on both. If used in a high electronic interference environment (nearby computers/monitors) not so much. 5) AM reception. Acceptable performance. If used in a high electronic interference environment (nearby computers/monitors) not so much. In the evening/night, with the wire antenna as noted above, have picked up distant high power stations. 6) Solar panel/LED reading light/Flashlight/Crank. Panel works well for radio reception. Haven't tried it for charging phones, etc. LED reading light works great, flashlight OK, Crank hasn't been used much as I use rechargeable AA batteries and keep a separate solar charger to keep multiples charged for different uses.

Must Have for Emergencies!
I purchased this product as part of their return/secondhand item program. Although it was classified as being “acceptable” used quality (aside from the damaged box it arrived in) The item was practically brand new. I was a bit surprised at the size of the product, just because I’m used to more of the smaller hand crank radios that are typically more travel-friendly and accessible. The price point is a bit on the higher end, but as I start to familiarize myself with it, and read through the user manual, I can definitely see why. It includes a multitude of additional functions that I do believe that the other smaller Emergency radios do not have. Some functions that I find that would be particularly handy in an emergency situation are: - AM/FM/SW/LW Radio Reception - NOAA Weather Alert - Built-in Solar Panel - Hand Crank Dynamo - LED Flashlight - Reading Lamp - USB Charging Port - Aux Input & Headphone Jack - Digital Tuning & Display - EGC Despite the larger size, I would encourage others to purchase this product in case of emergencies.

DO NOT BUY THIS RADIO! SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I live on the Gulf Coast. Tropical Storms and Hurricanes are SERIOUS, LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS for me and my family. It is IMPERATIVE that I have a Weather Radio for these types of emergency situations, along with many other items and supplies. I do not take this lightly. I live EXACTLY ONE BLOCK FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO. A reliable weather radio can mean the difference in life or death for us. I, obviously, purchased this item for Emergency situations. I purchased this on August 26, 2017. My friend has one exactly like it and her's works great. I did my research on several of the Kaito Radios before deciding to go with this one. This was going to be my VERY FIRST "expensive" weather radio. I am familiar with the one my friend owns, it works very well and I was impressed by its many functions. I decided to go with this one out of all the Kaito radios. I received my radio a few days after purchasing it. It appeared to be in perfect, brand new, condition. The box was not damaged in any way. I also purchased the additional set of accessories to go with it (back up batteries, AC Adapter and Antenna Extension). I was happy to have it all arrive quickly and without any issues. I opened the box to look at the radio and visually examined it for any flaws, imperfections or damages. It looked great. I pushed it right back into the box just exactly as it was before I pulled it out of the box. I immediately took the radio (still in the box) along with the extra accessories I purchased and put them on my shelf with my other Emergency Supplies for my family. The weather radio I owned prior to this is very small and inexpensive. At the time I purchased the small weather radio it was all I could afford. I was very proud of myself for making a responsible purchase of such a nice Emergency Weather Radio for my family with this Kaito. Fast forward to TODAY - October 6, 2017. My brand new weather radio has been sitting right there on my shelf inside its box keeping it dust free and ready to go in case of an emergency. AN EMERGENCY IS ON IT'S WAY! A hurricane. All hurricane season I've have hoped I wouldn't need my new weather radio, but was glad I had it just in case. Today I completely removed it from the box, began reading my instructions, getting it ready to set up before we lose power tomorrow evening. I'm doing what people on the Gulf Coast do - preparing, being ready, taking care of business to protect my family - MY DAUGHTERS' LIVES. I'm being responsible by getting out my weather radio before it's too late to learn all of its functions and features, etc. All seems well until I actually TURN IT ON. I CANNOT SEE THE DISPLAY. The display tells you what station you are on. The number of the station. The display tells you everything. Not my display! My display only shows the very top of the numbers or letters. The bottom of the letters or numbers is BLANK. I cannot preset stations. I don't even know what station I am on. I cannot set the time. I'm beyond frustrated by this! Everything sounds staticky. Nothing sounds clear as it should. I thoroughly researched this weather radio. I spent a good bit of money (for me and my family anyway) on this weather radio for EMERGENCY SITUATIONS and IT'S VIRTUALLY USELESS TO ME. If you've never experienced a hurricane maybe you can't understand the stress involved when you finally hear the words that this one is coming for you, your family and your home, everything you hold dear to your heart, everything you have and everything you own. The stress of getting everything in order, strapped down, sand bags, packing only very important things up in case you have to leave your home and maybe never be able to come back home to it... you just cannot understand the stress, frustration and helplessness. All you can do is what you can do to prepare. My husband JUST ASKED ME earlier today if I ever purchased the new weather radio. I happily let him know that I had done so. It was taken care of. Now this is useless to me. I've wasted $100 on this when I could have had another one that would have worked when it was time for AN EMERGENCY like a huge storm surge coming to possibly swallow up your home. I've also wasted about $30 on accessories for this radio. So there goes about $130 thrown away. I'm so disappointed in this purchase.... BEYOND DISAPPOINTED. I cannot even use the words I want to use to describe EXACTLY how I feel about this. I can honestly say in every purchase I have EVER made on Amazon I am the MOST disappointed by this one. THIS PURCHASE WAS MORE THAN JUST IMPORTANT IT WAS/IS VITAL. Now my family will huddle around our old, tiny, cheap weather radio we already owned instead of having a nice, reliable one to let us know what is going on out there when we lose power... and we WILL lose power. We've already been warned to plan on being on our own for at minimum 72 hours WITHOUT ELECTRICITY. My family needed this NOW. Not later but now. Right now. I cannot and will not recommend this Weather radio to anyone ever. Unfortunately, I will have to make do with the old radio and hopefully be able to purchase a better weather radio after this storm.

This radio sounds great, very sensitive for weaker broadcast signals, and will be an excellent information source in blackouts.
The Kaito Voyager KA600 is a great addition to your standby emergency backup supplies, for use in a power outage, or for taking with you on a camping trip, an outdoor cookout, when sunbathing, and on and on. I am amazed at the sound quality although it's not stereo (has only one speaker). Sounds better than my large tabletop radio, which sounds pretty good. Also the digital radio frequency dial allows precise tuning to the station of choice, including multiple weather-bands, and shortwave signals. The options for use during a power outage are useful and appropriate. E.g., the dynamo crank battery charger for adding more useful power and time to its internal rechargeable batteries, the solar panel provides similar "recharge" capability, not only for refilling the recharge batteries, but simply to operate the radio. You can add even more functionality by inserting another power source - regular AA batteries. (The AA's are optional but make for quick and easy listening when needed.) For clarification, there are 3 built-in internal rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, not removable, which collect the power provided by the crank or the solar panel. The optional, removable, and easily inserted standard AA batteries (not included) are for situations when there's no solar input, or you simply prefer not using the crank handle.

Versatile, easy to use
Perfect for emergencies. Flashlight, AM/FM radio, USB charging ports, uses rechargeable batteries that can be powered by the sun, by cranking by hand, or 3 AA Batteries. Has a solar panel charger, red lens for night vision, flashlight, etc. Has come in handy already (within 6 months), during several power outages we've experienced due to rain/snow. Last one was 5 hours, and we were all set. Listened to music on the radio, and played cards by the surface light!

Don't buy - solar charging doesn't work and customer support non existent
My Dad purchased this all the way from Australia and we had some minor issues getting AM to work but after emailing support they gave us instructions on how to do this. Shortly after we noticed solar charging doesn't work at all - emailed support twice but no reply. Expensive radio and it's great but the reason Dad purchased so he could charge it with solar when he was camping and no power available but unfortunately it doesn't work. Not recommended at all.

Camping radio
Nice little unit, decent enough reception when out of town. Charges quickly on the solar. Haven't really tried the lights, but, they do work. I have only used the USB and solar for power. Haven't added any extra batteries. Lots of features, most of which I haven't investigated yet.

Definitely way overpriced
It is working OK, but cheap plastic and construction. The Input/Output Functions Dock rubber flap protector does not stay in place. To top it off, the built-in rechargeable Ni-MH battery does not hold its charge even after having been fully charged (indicator appearing as solid) with the Kaito included power adaptor; the moment you turn the radio on the battery capacity falls down to Medium strength. I would not buy again, definitely not at the regular price (222.00 Canadian $)!!! I am disappointed.
